Director, Data Engineering to lead the build, design, and engineering of our technology solutions. We are seeking a tech leader who excels from strategy to tactical implementations, can lead a team of technical resources, and is passionate about solving complex problems.
An ideal candidate will have a rich experience in large scale platform development, data ingestion, and various data architectures, an established background in developing complex data pipelines, deep engineering skills and technical ability, outstanding people leadership with track record of growing/building strong and productive global teams, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment. This leader will need to balance both short and long-term objectives. They will need to roll up their sleeves to build solutions to effectively bring new features and functionality to external and internal customers. This role is a high-profile position that is well-suited for a person who has a passion for technology, has a data development background, and someone who can consistently execute and deliver high-quality results. The role will report directly to the CTO.
Essential Functions:
This job description is not meant to exhaustively encompass all potential job responsibilities, but rather provide an overview of the key responsibilities assigned to this position. Other duties may be assigned. As Director of Data Engineering, you will:
• Lead and drive the development of data engineering technology and platforms for the company's data needs, ensuring their reliability, performance, and flexibility.
• Own the technology and architecture of the data services.
• Manage and grow a high-quality data engineering team
• Partner closely with leaders in various business units to deeply understand their data needs and jointly develop technical solutions that serve these needs effectively.
• Coordinate delivery with cross-functional teams of Software Engineering, Product Management, and Finance.
• Drive technical and process innovation to increase the maturity and capability of data engineering team and practices.
• Drive the design, building, and launching of new data models and data pipelines in production.
• Coordinate the implementation of system enhancements, product maintenance and support, upgrades, updates, and patches to assure secure and optimal system performance, data integrity, and reliability.
• Manage the delivery of technology products using Portfolio Management and Agile best practices.
• Create, prioritize, communicate, manage, and execute roadmaps, project plans, and commitments.
• Define and manage SLAs for all data sets and processes running in production.
• Apply experience and knowledge to analyze, control, escalate, and resolve critical support issues in a timely fashion when needed.
• Create, manage, and measure KPI’s such as velocity, estimation accuracy and defect percentages.
• Ensure data quality and maintain data security.
• Own and contribute to your portion of the technology budget.
• Perform other duties or tasks as assigned. Travel Requirements
• Travel requirements for this position are less than 20% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
Any combination of equivalent education and work experience will be considered.
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent work experience
Work Experience:
• 10+ years of experience in data engineering, dataOps for a large-scale data platform serving multiple business lines and products, including hands-on design and implementation experience
• 5+ years of experience in a leadership role, managing and scaling engineering teams.
• Experience leading in a highly cross-functional environment, likely collaborating closely with Engineering, Product Management, and Finance/Analytics
• Deep knowledge and rich experience in data ingestions, including streaming technology and systems.
• Strong expertise in designing and building scalable data pipelines, ETL processes, and analytics solutions
• Communication and leadership experience, with experience initiating and driving large scale strategic initiatives.
• Data architecture experience.
• Experience in SQL or similar languages.
• 5+ years of experience utilizing Agile development methodologies including Kanban and Scrum
• Experience with HIPAA or other regulatory compliance requirements regarding data privacy and security a plus.

• Experience with large volume data sets and data visualization tools • Working experience with several of the following technologies: Azure SQL, Azure AI, SQL Server, T-SQL, SSRS, JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket.
