Overview of Responsibilities:
This position requires the Chief of Police to complete all firearms training as defined by the Reid Health Police Department.
- Must join the IAHSS and obtain the CHPA certification through IAHSS within three years of employment as the Chief of Police for Reid Health.
- Sensitivity to the “human element” in applying law enforcement principles and practices to a health care environment.
- Minimum of five years’ experience on a police force, military police, or security officer.
- Excellent written, verbal, computer, and telephone communications skills.
- Positive attitude consistent with our patient/customer focus mission.
- Understanding of evaluation process of staff and program, and use of innovation and creativity in problem solving and coaching personnel.
- Record management experience, including tracking and reporting activity trending within Reid Health and the healthcare profession.
- Computer knowledge and skills working with creating Excel spreadsheets and Word documents.
- Have the required skills, experience and/or ability to learn procedures necessary to complete assignments related to this position description and the physical requirement of the assignment. Physical requirements include pushing wheelchairs, assisting with lifting patients, restraining patients or guests, climbing stairs, and running short distances.
- Be able to train and qualify with a handgun, rifle and shotgun.
- Oversee the continued maintenance of training records maintained by the training officer for the Reid Health Police Department, to ensure all officers are completing their required ILEA training and department training. Monitor each officer’s proficiency with weapons as required by the Reid Health Police Department.
- Responsible for internal investigations of misconduct by RHPD staff.
- Liaison for Reid Health Police Department to other law enforcement agencies, prosecutors’ office, courts, probation department, fire departments, emergency management, and the 911 operations center.
- Education Required: Associates Degree
- Experience Required: At least ten years of experience of administrative leadership
of police/security (or similar) personnel including employee relations
- Education Preferred: Bachelor’s degree.
