Southern Auto Group is inviting all physically capable candidates with good attention to detail to apply in hopes of joining our team as a Diesel Mechanic. The primary duties of a diesel mechanic include performing diagnostic tests on diesel vehicles to find faults, analyzing diagnostic test results, and repairing or replacing engine, steering, transmission, braking, or lighting system components. Diesel mechanics need to be highly organized and communicate effectively, as they will be expected to maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles and interact with team members and management on a daily basis.
The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, some post-secondary automotive training, and at least two years of dealer-level or large facility experience. Holding a State Inspection License and certification by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is an absolute plus! An unrestricted driver's license and a clean driving record, a strong technical performance record, and strong physical dexterity and stamina to get the job done are required. Candidates must be able to work productively in a fast-paced team environment and must have a positive attitude, professional appearance, great communication skills, and the ability to deliver world-class customer service.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Diagnoses issues based on experience, analysis, and testing
- Performs routine service inspections or tests and completes standard maintenance jobs
- Repairs automobiles and light trucks as assigned
- Maintains cleanliness of vehicles while performing service or repairs
- Ensures that required documentation is complete and is in compliance with regulations and standards
- Helps maintain shop appearance and safety standards and ensures the shop runs efficiently by performing duties such as inventory stocking and other general functions
- Follows all shop policies, procedures, safety, and environmental rules
- Attends all staff meetings, training, and educational classes as required
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required
- Post-secondary automotive training or equivalent work experience
- Two years of dealer-level or large facility experience preferred
- ASE certification (or is willing to obtain certification)
- Virginia State Inspection License (or is willing to obtain license)
- Broad scope of automotive mechanical/electrical knowledge
- Unrestricted driver's license and clean driving record
- Able to drive both automatic and standard-transmission vehicles
- Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to maintain composure under stress
- Highly professional and dependable
- Safety and customer service-oriented
- Basic computer and internet skills
- Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift heavy objects as needed
