JOB TITLE - Development Manager
CALVARY WOMEN’S SERVICES MISSION:
Calvary Women’s Services offers housing, health, education, and employment programs that empower homeless women in Washington, DC, to transform their lives.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Development Manager executes Calvary’s development strategy. The position is a frontline fundraiser with the primary responsibility to manage day-to-day fundraising activities, support donor relations, and assist in the execution of events and campaigns.
The Development Manager works closely with the Development Director and other staff to implement the organization's development plan and meet financial targets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- In collaboration with the Development Director, develop and execute annual fundraising plans, including executing special events, individual giving, corporate sponsorships, and special campaigns.
- Execute key aspects of major fundraising initiatives, including direct mail campaigns, digital fundraising, and peer-to-peer fundraising efforts.
- Identify and cultivate corporate partnership opportunities with local businesses, schools, civic groups, and other organizations to support corporate engagement efforts.
- Responsible for generating $200,000-$300,000+ revenue through assigned special events, corporate partnerships, and other fundraising strategies.
Special Events
- In collaboration with the Development Director, execute fundraising events, including galas, fundraising walks, and community engagement events.
- Create and execute a comprehensive peer-to-peer fundraising strategy that aligns with Calvary’s mission and revenue targets.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of assigned events, including logistics, data entry, acknowledgments, and materials management.
- Achieve assigned fundraising goals by implementing strategies including sponsorship, corporate and participant recruitment and retention, and mission integration.
- Collaborate with the communications staff to promote events and ensure donor participation.
- Supports Development Director and volunteer leaders with the execution of plans for revenue generation, special event fundraising, and mission outreach and awareness.
- Make presentations to businesses, organizations, and community groups to secure corporate relationships, sponsorship, and volunteers and manage accounts on a year-round basis.
- Coordinate with event vendors, volunteers, and internal staff to ensure successful event logistics.
- Track event budgets, expenses, and revenue.
Corporate Partnerships
- Develop, implement, and cultivate corporate relationships and strategic alliances to yield event sponsorship and other revenue streams.
- Plan and execute workplace giving campaigns, such as year-end giving drives, giving days, or specific cause-driven initiatives.
- Develop and implement strategies to grow workplace giving programs through partnerships with local, and regional companies.
- Identify new corporate partnership opportunities for workplace giving programs, targeting companies with a strong culture of giving.
- Attend corporate and community events to network and promote Calvary.
Donor Stewardship
- Manage a portfolio of low to mid-level donors.
- Support and execute the moves management strategy to cultivate and steward donors.
- Work closely with the development team to leverage relationships and identify potential donors that align with Calvary’s strategic priorities.
Volunteer Management
- Create, structure, and launch volunteer committees to support Calvary’s mission and strategic initiatives.
- Identify and recruit individuals with the skills, experience, and passion to serve on the committees and drive revenue
Database Management
- Oversee the execution of the database management by the Development Associate.
- Ensure the Development Associate administers the donor database (CRM), maintaining accurate records of donor communications, contributions, engagement, and financial information.
- Work skillfully with the database management process.
- Analyze donor data to inform fundraising strategies, annual appeals, and other campaigns.
- Exercise fundraising best practices and identify opportunities to improve processes and procedures.
- Serve as backup to the Development Associate to maintain database and data entry for financial, in-kind, and volunteer contributions.
- Create reports and assist other development staff with fundraising reports.
Fundraising Appeals and Other Communications
- Coordinate with the Development Director and Communications Manager to distribute electronic and print appeals.
- Assist in the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns, including appeals, online fundraising, and peer-to-peer campaigns.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Offer support to the Development Associate, appropriate interns, and volunteers.
- Lead tours of the programs.
- Speak in the community on behalf of Calvary Women's Services.
- Participate in all staff meetings and on-site staff training.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Possess excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Have a team-oriented mindset and the ability to work independently without direct supervision.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Solid understanding of CRM databases.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, corporate partnerships, or employee engagement.
WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Be able to secure transportation for required trips out of the office.
- Ability to travel within the Area for meetings.
- Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistance.
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
- Climbing: Ascending or descending multiple flights of stairs, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms
- Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period
