Keller is the leading geotechnical specialty design build contractor in North America with offices located throughout the United States and abroad. We are seeking applicants for the position of Design Engineer to join the Northeast engineering design team based in Cumberland, Rhode Island. Keller’s Design Engineers, in collaboration with other team members, develop innovative, practical, and cost-effective solutions to challenging construction projects for our customers daily.
Responsibilities
The engineering design team is a solution driven team providing engineering support and services within Keller for design-build projects. The engineering team uses a combination of advanced engineering methods, proprietary design approaches, numerical modeling, and sound engineering judgement to produce cost effective designs for Keller’s clients. The engineering team also contributes to quality control, safety, risk management, marketing, training, research and development, and operations.
The Northeast engineering design team collaborates with project managers and other design engineers within Keller to support the northeast business strategy. The Staff Engineer position is primarily office based; however, job site visits and some travel will be required.
Expected job duties
- Provide technical input and design services throughout the Northeast Region.
- Be able to evaluate the technical applicability of various technologies and their relative cost effectiveness.
- Determine what ground improvement technique is more cost effective against various deep foundations?
- Determine what solutions are most cost effective?
- Develop the capability to use Plaxis 2D for FE Analysis (primarily Rigid Inclusion design, although other techniques sometimes require FE Analysis, e.g. Vibro Piers, Soil Mixing and Jet Grouting).
- Develop the capability to use Plaxis 3D for FE Analysis (primarily Rigid Inclusions, but this advanced modeling will be needed for other techniques, including shoring, in the right situations).
- Observe and evaluate field installation techniques for compliance with design and quality control standards.
- Maintain and support company standards of practice and standards of safety.
- Design and seal or review designs for the local branches.
- Collaborate with the support of excavation and structural support design efforts as needed.
- Active participation in ASCE/DFI and related organizations.
Qualifications
- MS Degree in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical specialization or a BS Degree in civil Engineering combined with 3 or more years of acceptable experience in geotechnical design and/or construction. Completion of the EIT is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency with geotechnical engineering software and with the Microsoft Office software suite are desirable.
Additional Information
Salary Range: $87,000.00 - $117,000.00 per year
Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors including relevant internal and external experience, knowledge, skills, scope of job, geographical location or other factors permitted by law
