About the position
Day Program Club at The View Alexandria. Day Program is a specialized social day program
designed for individuals with mild cognitive changes or early dementia, focused on purposeful
activities that aim to enhance cognition, maintain function, and support independence for as long
as possible. The Program Manager will plan and facilitate engaging, brain-healthy activities
tailored to each participant’s abilities and interests, fostering social interaction, cognitive
stimulation, and emotional well-being.
In addition to managing the Day Program Club, the Coordinator will collaborate with the Brain
Health Department on Dementia Friendly America initiatives and represent the program on the
Brain Health Advance Team. The Day Program Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting
participants’ quality of life and advocating for dementia-friendly practices within the community.
Job Duties
1. Plan, organize, and facilitate a variety of daily activities, including cognitive exercises, physical activities, arts and crafts, music, and social gatherings tailored to participants’ abilities and interests and following Goodwin Living’s 6 Dimensions of Wellness.
2. Create daily PowerPoints, schedules, and handouts as needed to guide and support program activities.
3. Assess the effectiveness of activities regularly, adapting based on participant feedback and observed engagement.
4. Engage directly with participants, offering individualized support to promote engagement, emotional well-being, and enjoyment throughout each activity.
5. Schedule and complete regular assessments for Day Program participants, ensuring activities remain aligned with their needs and goals and that participants remain appropriate for the program.
6. Build positive relationships with participants and their caregivers to foster trust and a welcoming environment.
7. Serve as the main point of contact for caregivers, providing regular updates and guidance to support participants at home.
8. Write and distribute a monthly newsletter to caregivers, highlighting key activities and progress made in the Day Program.
9. Receive referrals from the Goodwin Living campuses, HCBS, and community partners and assess if individuals are appropriate for the program.
10. Manage all administrative duties related to the Day Program, including room reservations, coordinating meals with dining services, and organizing contract/service agreements.
11. Communicate with The View Alexandria business office for billing of TVA residents, assist with invoicing, and manage billing for non-resident participants.
12. Oversee the supply budget for the program, coordinating purchases and reporting expenses.
13. Participate actively in the Brain Health Advance Team, sharing ideas and supporting large Brain Health events as needed.
14. Assist with Goodwin Living’s efforts with Dementia Friendly America, serving as a dementia friend and championing dementia-friendly practices within the community.
15. Work closely with the Brain Health Coordinator to provide monthly Memory Cafes for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers to join in positive engagement.
16. Ensure that records are confidential and are handled in accordance with appropriate professional concern for such confidentiality.
17. Contribute extensively toward achieving departmental goals and objectives.

24. Performs additional job duties as assigned and directed.
Job Requirements
1. Must possess a bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy, creative arts therapy, or other relevant field OR 5 years of experience working with older adults with cognitive change.
2. Must be proficient with computers; including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, and Zoom.
3. Must possess ability to deal tactfully and effectively with residents, staff, family members and the public.
4. A minimum of 1-year experience working with older adults, including those with cognitive impairments and/or dementia.
5. A minimum of 1-year experience in planning and implementing engaging daily activities tailored for individuals with cognitive impairments and/or dementia.
