Database Administrator - Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School
Los Angeles, CA 91325
About the Job
The Database Administrator reports to the IT Manager and is part of Heschel’s Information Technology department. The team’s job is to maintain Heschel’s Information Technology Infrastructure and provide high quality customer service to the school’s constituents.
Summary:
The Database Administrator provides comprehensive support for Heschel’s database applications and related software, including the learning management system (LMS), student information system (SIS), fundraising database, and other related systems. Additionally, the Database Administrator will provide first level technical support to Heschel’s students, faculty, staff, and parents for hardware and software as needed. No two days in the job will look exactly the same, as the Database Administrator will troubleshoot any problem that comes their way with empathy, ingenuity, and patience.
Time will be split between providing support to internal and external users for using database applications, performing batch operations, fulfilling data requests, special projects, and thinking strategically about the future of the school’s data. While the role is based at a desk, this person will be called on to help resolve technical issues in classrooms and elsewhere around campus and may be called upon to provide Audio/Visual support for school and community events.
This is a mid-level position. The role requires you to have experience managing a database, excellent troubleshooting instincts, stellar customer service, and a technical background. Strong preference is given to candidates with experience using Blackbaud Education Management and/or Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge.
What you’ll do:
Database Application Support (30%)
Provide advanced support for the school’s database applications, including but not limited to Blackbaud Education Management, Raiser’s Edge (we are mostly transitioned to Raiser’s Edge NXT, but have some processes still in RE7), and Financial Edge NXT. Troubleshoot data issues, answer how-to questions, identify trends, and create documentation for recurring issues and repeatable processes.
Data Stewardship (20%)
Learn and maintain expert-level knowledge of all of the school’s data sources. Identify opportunities to optimize workflows, improve consistency, and minimize repetitive tasks. Fulfill data requests, including performing basic data analysis, from the IT Manager and other school administrators as-needed.
User Account Administration (15%)
Create user accounts in database and SaaS applications for students, faculty, staff, and parents according to annual and ad-hoc procedures. Monitor existing and create new data integrations to automate account provisioning.
Special Projects (15%)
Perform annual processes (building the course schedule, creating years and terms, etc.) and complete ad-hoc projects as assigned.
Technical Support (15%)
In collaboration with the IT team, provide tier one troubleshooting for incoming help tickets related to hardware, software, classroom technology (printers, projectors, etc.), device configuration, regular maintenance, and asset management. Provide on-the-fly troubleshooting for devices and manage the loaner computer checkout/checkin process. Escalate more complex tickets as appropriate.
Event Support (5%)
On occasion, and as a backup to the rest of the IT team, prepare audio/visual systems for school events (e.g. microphones and sound, projection and video, live streaming, etc.) in line with incoming facility requests.
What you’ll bring:
2-5 years experience working with cloud-based database applications, preferably in a school or nonprofit setting.
Working knowledge of Student Information Systems and Learning Management systems is strongly preferred, with preference given to those with experience in Blackbaud Education Management and/or Raiser’s Edge.
Expert-level spreadsheet skills (Excel and/or Google Sheets) – VLOOKUPS and Pivot Tables should be your friend.
Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and present large datasets.
Passion for data hygiene and efficiency – you love operationalizing cumbersome processes.
General knowledge of Windows and ChromeOS operating systems and troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
Ability to solve technical issues by researching the problem.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, navigate competing priorities, and fulfill ambiguous requests.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm, in-person. Occasional support (1-2x/month)
for school events outside of these hours may be required.
Salary Range: $28-$32/hour
