Hybrid (Will need to be onsite from day 1, two days a week. Wednesdays arerequired to be onsite. NO REMOTE ONLY OPTION)Lansing, MI.We are looking for a DBA to join the team. This is not a short-term contract. Wewould prefer to eventually move the person to being a full-timeemployee, ifpossible, but the primary goal is to have an employee that can meet our skillrequirements. If the selected candidate desires to stay as a contractor, we aremore than willing to allow this but will also work to get to being a full-timestate employee if they desire.They will need to have experience with formal change control environments. Theyalso need strong troubleshooting skills.This position is for an expected 40 hours per week Monday through Friday withtwo days on site. There is currently a rotation for on call during the periodSaturday morning till Monday morning and this position may be required to assistwith this after an initial learning period. Overtime and weekend work is rareand must be scheduled and approved by our customer. This is generally ascheduled project.Our environment is predominantly Sybase with SQL Server. We are moving fromSybase to a pure SQL Server in approximately 3 years. The Sybase environment is15.7 on Solaris in an X86 hardware environment within our local network. The SQLServer environment is mixed versions of SQL Server on mixed versions of WindowsServer with an upcoming project to update versions. This environment includesboth servers in our network and in Azure.Our planned goal is to move off Sybase and a project to do this is underway andthus the need for the selected candidate to have some experience with bothSybase and SQL Server.Our primary goal is to have an additional individual to assist with our Sybase15.7. As a result, the appropriate candidate will need to have Unix backgroundrunning and developing CRON jobs with command line experience. The DBA should befamiliar with Sybase ASE 15.7. This can be at the level of a junior DBA. Thedesire is to have a DBA that can assist with tasks, particularly during afterhours implementations that the senior DBAs need completed to reduce the overalltime required per DBA. This position will also help with other tasks that occurduring the week such as weekly data fixes which occur on Thursday and Friday.The secondary goal is to take work off the SQL Server DBAs. This will requirethe individual to have some experience with Windows Servers and with SQL Server.Additionally, the person will work with clusters and with Disaster Recovery inour development, test, and production environments.A strong desired experience is migration from Sybase to SQL Server.
