Position Description
The Database Administrator role is largely responsible for providing operational database services to the organization. This role should be filled by a highly competent and motivated individual. The DBA role will require you to have a service-oriented mentality, a high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned to you, and the ability to focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with the SLAs (service-level agreements). It will also be important for you to establish and maintain communication with technology customers to keep them updated with the status of their requests, initiate and perform changes on production systems, and proactively escalate any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframe.

Responsibilities
- Own, track, and resolve database related incidents and requests.
- Engage in appropriate civil, resource-sensitive debates on important and complex topics with the understanding that the final decision rests with the responsible party.
- Fulfil requests and resolve incidents within SLAs.
- Review service-related reports (e.g. database backups, maintenance, monitoring) daily to ensure service-related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs.
- Respond to database related alerts or escalations and work with database engineers to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems.

Requirements and Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Database Administration for a major database platform and must have skill with:
- Troubleshooting and resolving database- and server-related issues.
- Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Backup, restore and recovery models.
- Business Continuity patterns and implementation models.
- Implementing operational automation using native tools and services.
- Indexes, index management, and statistics.
- Must have good communication and documentation skills.
- Must be able to provide off-hour support and be on call when necessary.
- Must have excellent T-SQL skills.
- AWS experience with managed database platforms and/or native AWS data services is required.
- Must have the ability to support various platforms like Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Aurora, and others.
- Must have knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services configurations and scalability options.
- Must have active involvement with the data community and be active in forums or newsgroups.
- A passion for automation of all things is highly recommended.
- Previous experience in teaching or mentoring other team members is a plus.
- Certifications are a plus.
- Ability to effectively communicate priorities to teams across the organization.
- Show desire and effort to train others and help them succeed.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to do everything possible to help the team.
- Ability to meet stated expectations on time and with quality.
- Ability to handle escalations.
- Possess strong time management skills and ability to prioritize issues.
