Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Data Links & Communication Engineer SME to support the Tactical Data Networks Enterprise (TDNE) program office, which is within the Aerial Networks Divsion (AFLCMC/HNA) and located at Hanscom AFB, MA.
The position provides expert (SME) level data links and communication systems engineering support to the Tactical Data Networks Enterprise (TDNE) branch and the Second-Generation Anti-Jam Tactical Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Radio (SATURN) program.
The Tactical Data Networks Enterprise (TDNE) contributes to the development, delivery and deployment of the next generation aerial layer network through a portfolio of legacy and advanced waveforms and airborne network management/development efforts that advance interoperability and connectivity
LOCATION: Hanscom AFB, MA
JOB STATUS: Full time; salaried
TRAVEL: CONUS travel up to 10% may be required
SECURITY CLEARANCE: A Top Secret security clearance is required
JOB RESPONSBILITIES:
- Interface with Federal, Department of Defense (DoD), United States Air Force (USAF), United States Army, and Joint communities to ensure data link communications capability complies with applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), National Security Agency (NSA), Service Acquisition Executives, Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS) business and technical rules.
- Provide resources with knowledge and experience in Developmental and Operational test and Evaluation at the sub-system and system level including interface with Air Combat Command, Air Force Command and Control Integration Center, Joint Interoperability Test Command, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, and all levels of the organizations that develop and manage the C3 and encryption key distribution infrastructure for controlling a networked system.
- Advise and assist the program Chief Engineer, Integrated Product Team (IPT) Leads, Program Managers (PMs), and joint combined test team customers on performance, schedule, and cost issues with respect to planning, communications, and control.
- Provide technical advice on C4 issues, including pre-launch conditioning and planning, aircraft-weapon pre- and post-release communications, and real-time targeting.
- Provide knowledge and experience in the specific areas of Combat Net Radio (CNR) definition and documentation, Test and Demonstration engineering support for interoperability testing, Joint Concept of Employment (CONEMP) development, documentation, and presentation, Cryptologic Systems, Link 16 Networking and Interface Control, Tactical Link 16 Implementation, Digitally Aided Close Air Support (DACAS) documentation and coordination, United States Message Text Format (USMTF) documentation support, Joint Interoperability of Tactical Command and Control Systems (JINTACCS) weapon systems engineering support.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to support agile communications initiative and activities.
- Familiarity with the development and documentation of Joint Service approaches for integrating weapons into existing tactical data link (TDL) environments that support effective weapon capability across a broad range of warfare intensity and force architectures.
- Knowledge of defense acquisition policies outlined in DoDI 5000.02
- Ability to assimilate information quickly, communicate effectively, and remain organized in order to monitor progress toward the accomplishment of various taskings and initiatives.
- Work proactively, with minimal supervision, and effectively communicate orally and in writing, providing quality acquisition and program documentation (briefings, documents, plans, etc.).
- Superior competency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams) and Adobe (Acrobat)
- MA/MS degree and 15 years of experience (5 years DoD).
