Data Analyst
Duration: 6 months contract.
Location: Onsite (Hybrid) in McLean, VA on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Schedule: Standard
Years of experience: 5+
Must Haves: Must have 3+ years of hands-on experience with data transformation and reconciliation. Must be proficient with Excel. Must have advanced querying experience and have worked with SQL. They should have experience in the finance industry (accounting) - Previous fintech would be ideal. Should have experience with general ledgers/sub ledgers. Should have experience using python for analysis.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Collect and write detailed data transformation and financial process requirements.
- Create and take responsibility for project deliverables.
- Create and maintain technical, process and data-related documentation.
- Create, analyze, execute and enhance complex Excel-based and Python-based processes, data controls and data reconciliations.
- Support acceptance testing; create and execute test cases; analyze and reconcile complex test results using Excel and Python.
- Improve and automate validations and input preparation processes.
- Maintain, update and track development features and stories in JIRA.
- Troubleshoot, track and resolve project issues, project dependencies and configuration changes.
- Lead the analysis, requirements and testing of financial reports using advanced Excel and custom Python code.
- Perform complex data and reports analysis involving financial, forecasting and risk data.
- Assess impacts from data sources and product changes to systems and processes.
- Create engaging and detailed materials including user guides, specification documents, release notes and testing results.
- Support a variety of project management activities, including control requirements and execution, issue troubleshooting and analysis, data conversion and cataloging, and user training.
Qualifications:
- Degree in accounting, quantitative finance, statistics, mathematics, economics, data analytics or a related quantitative field preferred, with 1 – 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Work experience and proficiency in programming and/or data mining languages such as SQL, Python or SAS.
- Experience working with large data sets and relational databases.
- Outstanding quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent presentation, communication and writing skills.
- Ability to use SQL to query and display large data sets while maximizing the performance of workbooks.
- Proven experience writing SQL to query complex data structures and working with analytics.
- Expertise with Python coding.
- Expertise with financial statements and general ledger/subledger data is strongly preferred.
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into technical specifications.
- Excellent competency with advanced Excel is required.
- Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy.
- Knowledge of application development following Agile methodology.
- Experience working with different databases and understanding of data and financial reporting concepts.
- Experience with implementing or modifying financial systems or applications, preferably related to accounting functions.
- Strong data and financial analytical skills; Ability to quickly understand complex financial concepts; Mortgage industry experience preferred.
