Title: Registered Dietician
Department:Food and Nutrition Services
Classification: Non-Exempt
Reports to:Administrator
Summary/Objective: The Dietitian is responsible for utilizing the nutrition care delivery process in providing nutritional care to the residents/patients in the center. He/she advises Administration, Director of Nursing and Dietary Supervisor as needed on all clinical aspects of nutrition care and abides by all standards set forth by applicable regulatory agencies and licensing boards. Provides budgetary recommendations for dietary departments. Updates corporate policies and procedures and engages and teach dietary department on the new regulations. Maintains and update corporate menu as part of the evidence-based practice and guidelines for facility population.
Essential Functions
· Puts customer service first. Ensures that residents/patients and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights. Maintains resident/patient confidentiality;
· Abides by established schedule to assigned centers.
· Assesses the nutritional status of residents/patients per standards of practice;
· Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to develop nutrition plans of care for the residents/patients;
· Monitors and evaluates effectiveness of nutritional interventions;
· Ensures appropriate and timely documentation of nutrition assessment tools, recommended interventions and follow-up;
· Addresses appropriate nutrition concerns with all members of the interdisciplinary team;
· Provides diet instruction and education for residents/patients, family and/or care givers;
· Monitors all aspects of the nutrition care delivery process to ensure clinical excellence;
· Ensures that the Food and Nutrition Services policies and procedures are adhered to;
· Performs other assignments as requested and approved by the Administrator including meal rounds/observations, sanitation audits and menu review/development and approval. Attends center and area meetings as requested and approved by the Administrator;
· Participates in the education and training of center staff;
· Maintains two-way communication with center Administrator, Dietary Supervisor, Nursing Services and corporate staff. Completes reporting tools as requested;
· Concerns his/herself with the safety of all residents/patients in order to minimize the potential for fire and accidents. Also, ensures that the center adheres to the legal, safety, health, fire and sanitation codes by being familiar with his/her role in carrying out the center's fire, safety and disaster plans and by being familiar with current MSDS;
· Interacts with customers, families, visitors, center and the facility’s subsidiary personnel;
· Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required
· Performs other duties as requested.
Required Education and Experience:
1. Dietitian, registered and/or licensed, as required by the state of employment.
2. Previous experience in a health care setting or previous experience as a consulting dietitian preferred. Experience with geriatric population is preferred.
3. This position requires that the employee is able to read, write, speak and understand the spoken English language to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our patients and visitors at the work site when responding to their medical and physical needs.
4. Must provide verification of TST (tuberculin skin test) as required by state law and in accordance with Company policy. TSTs will be administered at the work site if required.
5. Working knowledge of the Nutrition Process.
6. Well-developed organizational skills.
7. Effective communicator with excellent verbal and written skills.
8. Knowledge of regulations pertaining to department and center.
9. Must possess basic computer skills.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
Work Environment
