Job Overview: Screening and diagnosis of gynecologic (GYN), non-gynecologic (Non-GYN) and fine needle aspirate cytology specimen slides; performing on-site adequacy assessment of FNA specimens using mobile cart throughout the hospital.

- Screens GYN, Non-GYN and FNA cytology specimens,
- Prepares a final diagnosis on negative/normal gynecologic specimens
- Enters all preliminary GYN and Non- GYN results in the system to be finalized by a Pathologist,
- Attends Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology procedures in CT, Ultrasound and Endoscopy to determine specimen adequacy,
- Ensures all attended procedure specimens are labeled and ordered correctly,
- Maintains all supplies and stain control log for the mobile FNA cart which is stationed in CT, US and endoscopy suite,
- Perform/document routine maintenance on microscopes and other laboratory equipment to ensure optimal instrument operation,
- Prepares cytology and thin prep specimens on a STAT basis when required,
- Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information,
- Participates in regulatory agency inspection readiness and onsite inspections,
- Performs other duties as required by department
Required:
- Bachelor degree from an approved college or university and fulfillment of the requirements for certification as a cytotechnologist set forth by ASCP
- ThinPrep certification required.
- Three (3) years full-time and continuous experience as a cytotechnologist following certification in a laboratory supervised by a pathologist or other physician certified as a specialist in diagnostic cytopathology.
