About the Job
The Counselor provides substance use services to youth, young adults, and their families. They provide clinical care by conducting substance use assessments, case management, and ASAM Level 1 Outpatient Treatment through individual, group, and family sessions. Counselor will provide support and case management for unhoused young adults at the Willow shelter.
The Counselor is a key member of the Behavioral Health team and plays a crucial role in providing support to the community.

Schedule: On-site Monday through Friday
essential duties
Clinical Services Tasks
- Provide evidence based and culturally responsive therapeutic interventions and services to youth and their families.
- Administer substance use assessments, provide individual, family and group counseling sessions in accordance with ASAM level of care.
- Diagnose substance use conditions in accordance with the most recently published Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).
- Provide urinary substance use screenings to clients.
- Teach Alcohol and Drug Information School (ADIS) as needed.
- Provide case consultation, linkage, advocacy, and coordination of services to collateral contacts for assigned clients.
- Maintain direct service hours at 60% of total weekly work hours.
Administrative Tasks
- Attend weekly/bi-weekly individual meetings with Clinical Manager to review cases.
- Participate in employee case consultations and division meetings.
- Maintain awareness of the divisions within the agency and its internal resources.
- Improve knowledge about current best practices for various diagnoses and substance use concerns through research and continuing education.
- Maintain case records in an accurate and timely manner per all WAC, COA, Medicaid and King County requirements.
- Become familiar with agency and community resources to appropriately refer children, youth, and families.
job requirements
a. Education and Experience
- Associate degree in a human-service field.
- Licensed with the State of Washington as a Substance Use Disorder Professional/Trainee.
- Fifty hours of SUDPT hours completed, preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MS365 Power Platform.
b. Additional Requirements
- Must satisfactorily pass criminal history check.
- Must satisfactorily pass tuberculosis (TB) test.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid Washington State driver's license (or be able to obtain one by date of employment).
- Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles on Friends of Youth business, must have a safe driving record as defined by Friends of Youth.
- Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with the requirements of Friends of Youth.
- Must successfully complete the following health certification requirements within 30 days of employment: CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required. There are no exemptions.

- Proficient skill set with Microsoft Office programs.
