General Purpose:
To oversee internal legal matters and provide legal advice to the organization's Executive Team, General Counsel, Human Resources, Safety & Risk Departments, and field service operations.
Essential Functions:
- Advise internal employees regarding legal responsibilities and risks associated with business situations including such issues as state leave laws, drug testing, background checks, privacy, wage laws, and discrimination, retaliation, and harassment claims.
- Stay up to date on legal developments impacting a national company operating across nearly all states.
- Maintain knowledge of the company's legal documents and operations.
- Investigate and respond to agency charges, investigations, and audits (EEOC, OSHA, DOL, NLRB, DHS).
- Implement and manage litigation holds and work with outside counsel on litigation matters.
- Attend agency and litigation proceedings, depositions, mediations, and conferences as a company representative as necessary.
- Partner with learning & development, HR, safety, risk, and operations departments to develop and implement appropriate training, policies, and procedures.
- Manage collections, restrictive covenant, and I-9 compliance issues.
- Review and negotiate real estate lease agreements.
- Review and negotiate client service agreements, vendor agreements, and NDAs.
- Review and respond to subpoenas.
- Register and renew trademarks.
- Ensure proper handling and confidentiality of sensitive information.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Qualified candidates will have a Juris Doctorate degree and 2+ years of experience practicing law in a corporate environment or law firm setting.
- Prior experience with employment issues, ideally multi-state.
- Ability to work cross-functionally to proactively communicate and resolve issues with the highest sense of urgency and discretion.
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize responsibilities and work independently.
