Summary: The PLC Programming & Controls Specialist is responsible for the creation and maintenance of all PLC and HMI programming, as well as the management of plant dashboard systems. This role involves close collaboration with factory floor operations and shipping/logistics to customize workflows and meet operational requirements. The Specialist serves as a crucial technical resource, providing automation advice and support for the pork processing facility. The starting pay for this position is $28.41 per hour, with alternating work schedules between Monday to Friday and Monday to Saturday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain PLC and HMI programming using software such as RS Logix 5000, RS Studio 5000, RS Logics 500, Visio, Factory Talk ME, and SE, EZ-touch, among others.
- Incorporate and maintain equipment integration, including VFDs, flow meters, valve banks, and other devices connected to PLCs.
- Assist in determining the needs and locations of cabling, wiring, power supplies, motor control centers, and PLCs to meet facility requirements.
- Manage SE server equipment for the plant dashboard, including FT Directory, engineering workstations, HMI servers, data servers, and RDP clients.
- Handle security updates, patches, and manage security groups for system access.
- Maintain automation switches, network equipment, and Win911 system.
- Support multiple Wonder Ware Systems in the plant, including Rendering, Wastewater, and Refrigeration.
- Design and implement new PLC control systems and update electrical prints as needed.
- Provide support to Maintenance and ensure electrical and IT infrastructure specifications are met.
- Create and schedule batch jobs/workflows and troubleshoot processing problems.
- Analyze application performance and assist in resolving connectivity issues for factory users and systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with database administrators, system administrators, and other teams to diagnose and resolve complex problems.
- Apply application patches and perform upgrades as needed and configure, install, and maintain connectivity with host computer devices.
- Diagnose system issues and develop strategies to prevent downtime, improve reliability, and enhance safety.
- Procure software, hardware, or components for special projects or equipment repair/installation.
Qualification Requirements:
- Associate’s Degree in PLC/HMI related field or equivalent experience required.
- Experience in configuring wiring, cabling, servers, computers, and equipment.
- Experience in food manufacturing preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, regulations, and procedures.
- Proficiency in English; bilingual skills a plus.
- Strong mathematical and reasoning abilities.
- Proficiency in computer usage and industry-standard software.
- Knowledge of Ethernet communication, 24v and 120v control power, and actuating 480v equipment.
- Relevant certifications are advantageous.
- Allen Bradley PLC and HMI experience required.

- Capability to lift and move objects of varying weights.
- Vision capabilities for close work and focus adjustment.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to varying environmental conditions, including cold/hot, humidity, outdoor elements, dust, and odors.
- Regular proximity to moving mechanical parts and occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, temperature extremes, and vibration.
- Loud noise levels typical of plant operations.
Normal Work Schedule:
- Hours and days of work are subject to operational needs and management discretion.
