National Community Renaissance (CORE) is seeking a Controller to join our Accounting team. CORE is one of the nation's largest non-profit affordable housing developers with over a 30-year track record in community revitalization. The Controller directs the financial affairs of the organization and prepares financial analysis of operations, including interim and final statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management. The Controller is responsible for the company's accounting practices, the maintenance of its fiscal records, the preparation of financial reports and interfacing with the Board of Directors, donors and our sophisticated investor base on financial issues. The position involves supervision over general accounting, property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting and budgetary controls. The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
RESPONSIBILITES
- Development, analysis, and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.
- Develop and oversee the operational goals and objectives of financial function including running the day-to-day accounting activities.
- Supervise an Assistant Controller, with related staff, including Accounting Supervisors, Accounts Payable Supervisor, Corporate Accountants, Staff Accountants, Accounting/Accounts Payable Clerks.
- Maintain the company's system of accounts and keep the books and records on all company transactions and assets.
- Responsible for proper Corporate and property cash management, including monthly cash flow analysis and comparisons.
- Interface with other department heads regarding various analytical and procedural issues.
- Coordinate with outside auditors for the preparation of fiscal and calendar year-end audits and tax returns.
- Coordinate required staff training classes, including computer, industry, compliance and accounting related property management and construction issues.
- Plan for the long-term growth of the Accounting Department. Interview, hire, review, direct, discipline, and recommend changes in status of all assigned accounting personnel.
- The Controller has final responsibility for providing effective financial controls for the organization. Implement, monitor and manage internal controls to include document-tation and audit thereof.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related major.
- Certified Public Accountant a must!
- Minimum of five (5) years experience as the Accounting Controller or equivalent level.
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in a property management related environment.
- Strong organizational and management skills.
- Construction and Development experience preferred.
- Excellent management and personnel skills.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with spreadsheets and Windows.
- Yardi Accounting software.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Operate computer and office equipment.
- Work is primarily sedentary in nature.
- Some overnight travel.
