A growing construction company in the Baltimore Metro area seeks a proven Controller
Responsibilities:
- Financial Management: Manage all aspects of financial operations, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable and receivable, collections, and payroll.
- Reporting and Analysis: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analysis to support decision-making and provide insights to senior management.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with various departments to develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial goals, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Compliance and Taxation: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including sales tax returns and union benefits, and work closely with external auditors for annual audits.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance financial processes, systems, and controls to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high-quality work and professional development.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, procurement, and project management, to provide financial insights and support decision-making processes.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks, including analyzing WIP (work-in-progress) and ensuring proper control over project costs.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including banks, vendors, and clients, to support the organization's financial objectives.
- Ad hoc Projects: Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by senior management, leveraging your financial expertise to drive business growth and success.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in using financial software and ERP systems. Experience with construction-specific software is a plus.
- Extensive experience in managing payroll, wage calculations, and union benefits.
- Solid understanding of tax regulations and experience in filing sales tax returns.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
