Position: Controller
Location: Primarily Remote (Candidates in NC, SC, or TN preferred)
A rapidly growing, private equity-backed organization in the consulting and medical services sector is seeking an experienced Controller to join its Finance & Accounting team. This position offers a primarily remote work environment with occasional travel to Charlotte, NC, and other locations as needed. The company is poised for continued expansion through acquisitions and is preparing for future recapitalization, making this an exciting opportunity for a leader with expertise in scaling financial operations.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will serve as a key member of the finance leadership team. This role involves overseeing daily financial operations, driving process improvements, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements. The Controller will partner closely with operations to streamline business practices and ensure financial efficiency and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily financial operations, including reporting, billing, accounts receivable/payable, payroll, treasury, and project-based accounting.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP.
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting process, collaborating with business units to establish targets and assumptions.
- Develop and maintain revenue recognition policies and procedures.
- Actively manage cash flow, including forecasting and debt covenant compliance.
- Oversee the integration of acquisitions, identifying synergies, and implementing best practices.
- Support strategic initiatives through financial modeling and analysis.
- Act as the primary point of contact for external audits, tax preparation, and compliance efforts.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls to improve efficiency and mitigate risk.
- Provide financial insights and data for executive leadership and board meetings.
- Drive continuous process improvements across the finance function.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required); CPA designation (required).
- Experience:
- 5+ years in a Controller or senior finance role.
- 10+ years in finance with team management experience.
- Background in public accounting and private equity-backed companies (required).
- Experience with acquisitions, financial integration, and project-based accounting.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in ERP systems, preferably NetSuite.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, revenue recognition, and internal controls.
- Expertise in inventory, fixed assets, lease accounting, and work-in-progress.
- Preferred Background:
- Familiarity with the staffing industry, laboratory services, or life sciences.
- Experience in a mixed-assets or billable-hours business model.
