We are seeking to hire Project Managers to support our clients in the Northern Virginia, Fredericksburg, Culpeper, Charlottesville, Hampton Roads, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Richmond, and Lynchburg areas.
Job Description:
Position Overview: The Project Manager position is a full-time position with direct responsibility for project documentation, procurement of materials, preparation of subcontracts, invoicing for accounts receivable, review and approval of invoices for accounts payable, material invoicing, tracking, and certifications, EEO compliance, project scheduling, quality assurance and quality control compliance, and assisting with preparing and submitting certified payrolls. The Project Manager will work with other employees, subcontractors, prime contractors, clients, and owners to ensure compliance with the contract bid documents, plans, and specifications. The Project Manager must have experience with procurement, scheduling, material tracking, invoicing, writing correspondence, preparing purchase orders and subcontracts, and reconciling budgets. The position requires experience performing administrative tasks related to the management of heavy highway civil construction projects to ensure they are completed safely, on-time, and within budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the assigned project/task is completed on schedule and in accordance with the plans and set specifications.
- Follows all requirements in the Company / Employee Handbook and Safety Manual including, but not limited to, safety training, employee observation, emergency procedures, and accident reporting and investigation.
- Ensure compliance of production staff with all company policies and procedures, OSHA, EPA, and DOT guidelines.
- Read and follow plans, shop drawings, material lists, guidelines and apply necessary timelines to meet project completion schedules.
- Plan, schedule, organize, direct, control and evaluate construction projects from start to finish according to the project schedule, specifications, and budget.
- Handle project administration, including cost control, schedule control and change order administration.
- Prepare and submit construction project budget estimates.
- Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones, and monitor progress against established schedules.
- Prepare contracts and subcontracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with owners, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and engineers.
- Develop and implement quality control measures and programs.
- Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients.
- Assist with supervising activities of subcontractors and subordinate staff.
- Submit crewmember’s timesheets to CES payroll department daily.
- Record and submit production reports for all work performed and quantities installed daily.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve company goals.
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge, experience, and skill.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Maintain good relations with the public, engineers, architects, inspectors and customers to facilitate job progress and promote a positive company image.
- Transport materials, tools and equipment to/from installation sites if required.
- Develop Project Completion Schedules.
- Develop project budgets.
- Prepare and evaluate Change Orders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be reliable.
- Must pass pre-employment background and drug screening.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience required.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans, drawings, specifications, and contracts preferred.
- Combinations of work experience and education may be considered.
- Experience in highway construction preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
- OSHA 10 hour preferred.
- VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Safety Traffic Control Certification preferred.
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Level I preferred.
- Erosion and Sediment Control Contractors Certification (ESCCC) preferred.
- First Aid/CPR training preferred.
- Current Driver’s License required.

- Coordinate or schedule the activities of construction workers.
- Read specifications, plans and blueprints, to determine construction requirements.
- Coordinate work activities with other construction project activities.
- Confer with managerial or technical personnel, other contractors, and the client / owner to resolve problems and/or to coordinate activities.
- Order materials or supplies.
- Analyze worker or production problems and recommend solutions, such as improving production methods or implementing motivational plans.
- Train workers in construction methods, safety procedures, or company policies.
- Record information such as personnel, production, or operational data on specified forms and/or reports.

Physical Demands:
- Includes standing and sitting for extended periods of time.
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.

- Able to be alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including awareness of other employees, subcontractors, machinery, equipment, and moving traffic.
- Coordination between hand, eyes, feet to guide tools, equipment and objects is required.
- Visual accuracy under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions.
- Able to work overtime and weekends, if necessary.
- Able to travel when required.
Working Conditions:
- Work indoors in an office environment with occasional visits to project sites that are outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions in all seasons (i.e., rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.).
- Noise level in the work outdoor environment is loud.
- Exposure to dust, grease, gasoline, diesel fuel, concrete, and other environmental factors of a construction job site are anticipated in outdoor environments.
