Overview
The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Construction Inspector. Responsible for the inspection and testing of utility construction within residential and commercial development projects as well as capital projects to insure compliance with utility standards and practices. Performs a variety of administrative and technical duties.
Work Location and Schedule
This position will be based in Saint Charles, IL with some travel.
What You'll Do
- Inspects the construction of and oversees testing of water mains, sewer mains, reclaimed mains, force mains and lift stations to ensure compliance with company standards and specifications as well as IEPA & IDEM regulations.
- Inspects the construction of various capital projects such as treatment plant rehabilitations, gravity sewer lining, manhole rehabilitations, treatment plant expansions/upgrades and utility relocations.
- Performs field inspections of the company's construction improvements for compliance with plans, standards, specifications, regulations, permits, safety and building codes. Inspects approves, and/or rejects all phases of the company's construction.
- Coordinates preliminary project information requests such as locates and conflicts with Project Manager and/or Area Managers.
- Coordinates inspections with engineers and contractors, sub-contractors, and internal staff.
- Review and interprets construction plans, shop drawings, specifications, special revisions, as-builts and related submittals for compliance with Company and regulatory standards and specifications.
- Attends preconstruction, progress and safety meetings as scheduled.
- Reviews and evaluates shop drawings, change orders, RFIs, meeting minutes, material testing, and pay applications for accuracy and correctness.
- Maintains accurate routine inspection and progress reports for all projects and has a detailed and organized filing system in place for every project.
- Assists with gathering project closeout documents prior to final pay application and/or regulatory approvals.
- Notifies the Business Unit of any current or pending items that could impact the successful construction of or completion of projects.
- Ensures that work performed under capital projects meets Company safety policies and procedures.
- Issues verbal warnings and stop-work orders.
- Assists the Business Unit r with forecasting and planning of Capital projects.
- Attends routine safety training meetings.
- May be required to attend nightly construction projects or Town Hall meetings.
What You'll Bring
Experience
- Requires a minimum of 3 years of construction experience, preferably related to a combination of safety, inspection, distribution, collection system and treatment plant operation.
- Technical training in construction methods and standards related to the water & sewer industry.
Education and Licenses
- High School diploma or GED.
- Requires a valid driver's license
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to calculate basic mathematical equations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Ability to keep accurate records and prepare/submit accurate reports.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Exhibit excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, including negotiating, decision making, researching, analysis, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, contractors, engineers and the public.
- Ability to understand and implement a variety of field concepts, practices and procedures.
- Ability to motivate others in pursuit of Company goals and objectives
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook with the ability to learn internal and job-related software programs.
- Requires daily travel to worksites in Company-assigned vehicle.
Work Environment
- Moderate to heavy physical demands including lifting of up to 50 lbs., walking of up to 5 miles/day, climbing, bending and extended driving periods of up to several hours/day.
- Android smartphone, laptop, copy/fax/scan machine, telephone and other general office equipment. Operates a Company issued vehicle. Uses various Company issued field testing equipment.
- Within the assigned geographical area of responsibility.
- Potentially having to staff overnight to accommodate the tight work schedules. Depending on project size and timing can range from 3-5 days a week.
