The Community Engagement Instructor (Chorus) is a vocal practicing artist and educator who possesses a strong commitment to working with children, teens, adults, and educators. This position may teach in all aspects of the Arts Education Partnership Program, Professional Development Workshops, Day @ the Straz Field Trip Program and other instructional based programming as assigned.
Located in downtown Tampa, the Straz offers flexible hours, event-based schedules including evenings and weekends, and a team-based work environment.
Essential Functions:
- Instructing primary & secondary students, as well as adult learners in the field of choral music and creating a safe and orderly learning environment.
- Motivating participants to develop an interest in and an appreciation of the art of music.
- Assisting participants to develop knowledge, skills, and talents in the field of music. All while utilizing a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to participants interests and abilities.
- Responsible for the planning and execution of educational arts programming appropriate for specific age groups. (Pre-K through Adult).
- Uses a variety of instructional techniques and musical repertoire appropriate for the ages and skill level of students.
- Provides each student with an evaluation (either verbal or written).
- Submits course descriptions as requested to the Community Engagement Department and Music Department.
- Attends professional development sessions and staff meetings.
- Works with the Community Partnership Coordinator on program site scheduling and curriculum.
- Carries out administrative responsibilities.
- Participates in pre-planning and post-planning meetings.
- Acts as an ambassador and serves as a community representative to speak on behalf of the Community Partnership Program at community functions as requested.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- Professional artist working within field of expertise within the last five years.
- Knowledge and demonstrated practice of effective classroom management strategies to maintain a safe and effective learning environment.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Effective prioritization and multitasking skills.
- Collaborative decision-making skills in a team environment.
- Detail oriented with ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule which may include nights and weekends.
- Must have reliable transportation, be able to drive a car and have appropriate auto insurance coverage, and a valid Florida Driver's license.
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Vocal Performance, or related field is preferred.
- Applicable certification or significant training and/or performance experience required.
- Proven experience working as a choir director.

The employee is frequently required to remain stationary; use hands, arms, communication to express oneself (required for performance, teaching, listening to music, choreography, etc.).
- Must have ability to move boxes of promotional and ticketing materials for short distances.
- The nature of this job requires the employee to work on-site as a regular work routine.
