Position Status: Fulltime, exempt
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is between $70,000-$85,000. EFI offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, vision, and dental insurance, 401k with a 5% match; and a pre-tax Flexible Savings Account, Health Savings Account, and parking and metro benefits. We have generous paid time off, plus all federal holidays and the week between December 25 and January 1.

The EFI Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public on ways to harness the power of technology and policy innovation to accelerate the clean energy transition. Under the continued leadership of U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest J. Moniz, the Washington, DC-based EFI Foundation builds on the prior thought leadership work of the Energy Futures Initiative, founded by Secretary Moniz in 2017.
Summary
The EFI Foundation is seeking a Communications Associate to assist the EFI Foundation Senior Vice President of Policy Strategy and Outreach, the Deputy Director of Communications, and the Communications Team in activities to promote the work of the EFI Foundation to energy stakeholders and the general public. Candidates should have a proven ability to perform under pressure.
This is not an entry-level position, and candidates must have at least three years of relevant communications experience after college graduation in a paid position. The EFI Foundation’s work includes thought leadership and analytical research on topics such as hydrogen, nuclear power, carbon dioxide removal, natural gas, and offshore wind power.
This is a hybrid position, and candidates must be in or willing to relocate to the Washington, D.C., area for at least three days a week in the office.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Take a lead in creating and executing strategic communications plans for EFI’s many varied projects, reports, and events. Participate in and lead strategic discussions. Interface with EFI’s research and project teams. Track and manage tasks involved in executing these plans.
- Write and edit news- and feature-style blog posts, event promotional materials, report summaries, media alerts, website content, and fact sheets.
- Generate social media content (text and designs) for LinkedIn, Twitter, and potentially Instagram, and help manage social media accounts, including contributing to and implementing strategy to engage audiences.
- Help copyedit written materials produced by other team members according to EFI’s Style Guide and AP Style, to catch grammatical and punctuation errors, and to ensure clarity, accuracy, and effective framing.
- Manage and help manage schedules for report publication and other projects.
- Manage and contribute to EFI’s monthly newsletter and send out electronic invitations and other mailers to promote EFI events.
- Contribute your expertise to overall strategic communications planning to ensure that EFI’s work reaches and resonates with target audiences (policymakers, other non-profits, energy industry stakeholders, etc.), and to increase the impact of EFI’s work.
- As part of strategic communications planning, manage the production of monthly impact reports on communications and marketing analytics, including social media metrics, website traffic, and email engagement.
- Make routine updates to the EFI website.
- Help create and maintain databases for strategic content distribution to energy stakeholders and influencers, reporters, and U.S. policymakers and their staff.
- Bachelor’s Degree (in Communications or related)
- 3 years of experience of post-graduation professional experience in communications.
- Experience working with research/technical teams to produce strategic communications
- Copy editing skills and experience (AP Style, correcting grammar and punctuation)
- Strategic communications mindset and experience (preferably, including campaigns to energy stakeholders), and experience communicating to various audiences
- Experience with social media, mass mailings (such as through Constant Contact, MailChimp, or Salesforce), some graphic design (such as Canva, Affinity Publisher, InDesign).
- U.S. citizenship or authorization to reside and work in the United States
- Proof of vaccination against COVID-19
