Objective of the Job:
This Position is for a Mechanical Engineer responsible for assisting the Mechanical Maintenance and Operations teams of the Coated Products Department of Big River Steel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Ensure Safety, Environmental, Quality requirements and “where applicable” ResponsibleSteel requirements are followed.
2) Works with team to help resolve any design or Mechanical Engineering problems.
3) Works with line Personnel to quickly initiate corrective actions and assist with performing any necessary changes, revisions or Modifications to line equipment or process.
4) Prepares updates and summaries of problem areas or concerns.
5) Regularly attends Team meetings to resolve any issues that arise.
6) Works in Conjunction with Maintenance/Operations Managers in a team effort to complete projects on schedule and within or under budget.
7) Works closely with contractors and site personnel to maintain a clean work environment.
8) Assists in designing projects mechanical functionalities.
9) Provides support to all team members in facilitating a seamless working relationship between all members of the Coating Department.
Qualifications:
1) Demonstrated focus on safety and willingness to proactively apply it in a team environment.
2) Quality and Detailed Oriented with strong Technical Background and Analytical Problem Solving Skills
3) Reliable Team Player with good Communication Skills.
4) Highly Motivated, Self-Directed, and willing to put in extra hours when needed.
5) Experience in reading Mechanical Blueprints.
6) Ability to use MS Excel, Word and Outlook proficiently.
7) Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Technical Certificates with equivalent experience preferred. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Environment is typical for a Steel Mill Production Area, with extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and dusty/greasy areas. Physically demanding work will be required in the Production Environments. Scheduled hours are day shift Monday through Friday, however additional hours in a week will most likely be required.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not supervise others.
