SMX is currently seeking a Cloud Systems Administrator with strong Linux experience. The candidate fulfilling this IT operations / engineering position will be capable of performing primary duties of the role with limited supervision; planning, executing, and leading simple, repetitive tasks within the Operations phase of the IT life-cycle; and, representing SMX during technical customer-facing discussions as required.
The Cloud Systems Administrator position is a role within a 24/7/365 Operations Team supporting clients deployed within public, hybrid, and private Cloud service infrastructures. Candidates will be required to work a planned 8 hour/day during the below shift schedule.
The support rendered shall include, but not be limited to: Event Management, Incident Response, Request Management, Problem Management, Change Management, and other general or hyper-scale cloud service-specific technical support as required. Some overnight, on-call, and/or weekend work could be required to support change and maintenance activities. This role will require working hours of Tuesday-Friday 3pm EST to 11pm EST or Sunday - Thursday 3 pm EST- 11 pm EST both with weekend shift coverage as needed. The preferred location for this resource will be Honolulu, Hawaii but West Coast candidates will also be considered.
Responsibilities:
- Execute IT Service Management (ITSM) processes such as (but not limited to): Event Management, Incident Response, Request Management, Problem Management, and Change Management – as assigned.
- Participate as a member of cross-functional teams in the management, operations, maintenance, and sustainment of complex technical services and environments across the customer life cycle.
- Apply structured trouble-shooting techniques, technical skills, and defined procedures to mitigate or resolve issues or discrepancies in supported systems.
- Directly consult with users and/or customers in relation to requests for technical support for managed services and systems.
- Assess existing environments for opportunities to simplify, automate or introduce increased efficiency to complex technical processes.
- Identify, recommend, and prioritize events, incidents, requests for technical support, and the continual service improvement of customer environments and infrastructure under management
Required Skills and Experience:
- Clearance Required: Ability to obtain Secret clearance (position may require US Citizenship for work under DoD contracts).
- Strong communication skills and professional demeanor to be able to effectively work with customers and end-users
- A strong interest in cloud platforms and technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Prior troubleshooting/analysis experience
- Experience gained through formal education/labs or side projects in one's own time
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information systems preferred, but not required
- Shell scripting experience or familiarity with AWS services a plus
- Extensive Linux experience, repo configuration, bash scripting, intermediate networking skills, experience with Linux web hosting: Apache/Tomcat/Nginx
- Experience with large scale automation/pipelines/devops, experience with customer facing roles
- Expertise with identification / recommendation of CSP services and best practices
- Knowledge and experience with Windows and Linux system administration
- Knowledge and experience with implementation and management of infrastructure capabilities such as: identity and access management, OS/App patching systems, Linux/windows scripting
- Implementation and control of data flow to/from/within CSP infrastructure
- Identification / recommendation of CSP services and best practice
- Knowledge of processes for migration to CSPs
- Familiar with estimation of CSP costs
- Familiar with implementation of security and compliance controls
- Familiar with definition and deployment of monitoring, metrics, and logging on CSPs
