About the Job
The Senior Closer performs a variety of loan closing/funding functions, including the preparation, review and funding of mortgage loan documents, and the interaction with escrow and title companies. The Senior Closer will act as a liaison between the Mortgage Banker and the borrower at the application stage and between Mortgage Banker and capital markets at the rate lock stage. The Senior Closer will coordinate, monitor, and help resolve pre-closing, closing and post-closing issues among multiple platforms including underwriting, accounting and treasury, legal, new loan boarding, client relations and other servicing platforms.
- Assists the underwriter and/or Mortgage Banker in the final stages of the loan due diligence.
- Reviews the application and rate lock documentation.
- Coordinates commitment, closing, and delivery phases of loans originated to ensure commitment requirements are satisfied within a specified timeframe to enable best execution.
- Verifies receipt and disbursement of all fees as per commitment terms or investor guidelines.
- Maintains tickler and status file to monitor and track appropriate documentation requirements.
- Coordinates insurance review with third-party consultants and assists the underwriter, Mortgage Banker or Lender’s counsel in resolving any insurance issues that may arise.
- Request and analyze current real estate tax information.
- Sets up loan funding calculations and prepares Closing Workbook consisting of Escrow Analysis, Property Taxes and Insurance, Reconciliation Sheet and Servicing Memorandum; Ensures accuracy of all related accounting entries; Resolves all closing figures with title company and Mortgage Banker.
- Prepares and submits wire requests for loan funding along with applicable supporting documentation.
- Balances good faith reconciliation statement in accordance with corporate guidelines.
- Records loan and closing information in OmniView, the Company’s loan system of record.
- Prepares the closing file for delivery to the New Loan Boarding team, warehouse provider (if applicable), and the Investor or document custodian.
- Tracks delivery of loan documents to custodian and follow-up on receipt of recorded documents.
- Works with Senior Vice President-Closing on all process improvement activities
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, GED/equivalent certification, or equivalent military experience; Bachelor’s degree or higher in the Real Estate of Finance field preferred.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience as a business or legal loan closing coordinator or agency specialist for a financial institution.
- Solid math and calculation skills.
- Organized with a strong attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency in computer applications using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a larger team with a demonstrated flexible attitude.
- Excellent interpersonal skills- must be confident and comfortable in speaking with internal and external team members.
- Comfortable on a high-volume and fast-paced environment.
- Motivated to achieve personal and departmental goals.
