About the Job
The clinical counselor/ social worker position contributes to the team of clinicians in the Office of Counseling Services by providing therapeutic and educational services related to mental health needs of High Point University. This position focuses on stepped care clinical services including walk-in, ongoing short-term counseling, groups and workshops, and outreach events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in counseling, social work, or related field.
Experience and Training
- Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of North Carolina; LMFT also considered
- Provisional license may be considered with at least one year of post graduate experience.
- Experience working with university or college counseling center preferred.
- Experience with group and psychoeducational interventions.
- Training in clinical models of interventions and assessment for appropriate levels of care.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
- Knowledge of a broad range of clinical mental health interventions and counseling methods.
- Ability to effectively respond to crisis intervention needs.
- Ability and confidence to engage in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of short term or solution-focused practices for therapeutic intervention.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, as presentations and outreach education will be an element of this role.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create and maintain relationships with cross campus collaborators.
- Electronic health record and digital fluency in essential software programs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides counseling support services for High Point University students in various service delivery formats including individual, group, and outreach services.
- Supports immediate assessment needs for crisis and intervention, including voluntary and involuntary interventions.
- Assists in arranging off-campus referrals when appropriate.
- Participates in prevention activities under the direction of OCS directors and prevention specialists.
- Offers consultation with cross campus partners.
- Maintains confidential written clinical documentation in electronic health records.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Counseling Services.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Reports to Executive Director of Counseling Services to support the mission of HPU and OCS.
