Summary:
- The Client Controller is a client facing collaborative role.
- You will be tasked with leading an accounting team with multiple skill sets and function as the point of contract for clients.
- This position requires a professional who has a passion for leading a team, client service, process improvement and embracing technology along with a love for numbers.
- Our clients cover several industries and range in revenue, expense, and asset size.
- We leverage the best technology available to streamline their back-office processes so that they can focus on their core visions and missions, while we provide the backbone to their operations. Communication skills, both written and verbal, will be critical to this role.
Responsibilities:
- Overall day-to-day ownership and point of contact for a set of assigned client relationships.
- Provide coaching for your team and deliver business advisory services to clients.
- Thorough understanding of full cycle accounting inclusive of accounts payable, account receivable, bank reconciliations, prepaids, fixed assets, accrued expenses, revenue recognition, deferred revenue, and long-term debt and equity/net assets.
- Lead the month-end close process inclusive of creation and maintenance of month-end journal entries, complex balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis and financial reporting.
- Full understanding of segregation of duties and internal controls and create or maintain them amongst the team.
- Ability to leverage technology to automate voluminous tasks for clients and the accounting team.
- Ability to review documents and contracts and determine the proper accounting treatment in accordance with GAAP.
- Familiar with most recent changes in GAAP inclusive of ASCs 606 and 842.
- Proactively recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing accounting policies and procedures require change or where new policies/procedures need to be developed to achieve service delivery goals of timeliness, accuracy and communication.
- Aggressively identifies and recommends opportunities to enhance productivity, effectiveness, and operational efficiencies.
- Ability to understand end user’s information requests to deliver appropriate ad hoc reports.
- Prepare forecasts and budgets to advise and educate clients.
- Responsible for creating an exceptional client experience and resolving any client satisfaction issues.
- Maintain professional, positive working relationships with your team members (including Accounting Managers, Staff Accountants, and Admin Support).
- Project management of ad-hoc projects for assigned clients.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Strong skills in change management, issue resolution, data analysis, and financial reporting.
- This individual must possess excellent communication skills to support team members and clients in a prompt, professional and effective manner.
- Ability to be a team player and self-starter will lead to success in this role.
- Candidate must have at least 5-7 years as a Controller or Director within a mid-market organization.
- Four-year degree in Accounting or Finance is required, CPA/MBA preferred.
- Hands on experience with large ERP software systems/implementations is a plus.
- Cloud-based technology aptitude required. Advanced excel user, (complex pivot tables, formulas, IF statements, concatenate, text functions, vlookup/match:index, etc.). History of managing professionals, driving utilization to achieve maximum results and client satisfaction while maintaining GAAP compliance. Not for profit or federal cost accounting experience is an asset.
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident, based in the US.

- A quiet and dedicated workspace available during client business hours as frequent internal and external video calls are required.

- Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer.
