Scope of Position:
Christmas Bell Ringers are essential to the Salvation Army and a culturally iconic part of the Christmas Tradition. They provide nostalgia and Christmas Cheer and are responsible for a critical source of revenue that allows The Salvation Army to carry on the part of its mission concerned with providing for those in need in our community without discrimination.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Monitors a Kettle at an assigned location; ensures that the kettle is never left unattended; Within reason and without causing harm to self or others; ensures the security and accountability of kettle and funds with established operating procedures.
+ Greets the public in a courteous and friendly manner; expresses appreciation to donors.
+ Conducts job duties following the ministry of The Salvation Army and its Christian principles
+ Protocol of The Salvation Army and conducts all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization.
+ Work is performed outside an assigned store and rings the bell for charitable donations where physical discomforts are associated with weather changes.
+ Bring the spirit of the Christmas season by making eye contact, smiling, greeting, and thanking them. Wishing the public a Merry Christmas, God Bless You, Happy Holidays, or other appropriate greetings.
+ Direct any public mission questions to the Corps phone number or Divisional phone number.
+ Relieve the previous volunteer promptly (not making coworkers wait to leave)
+ Follow all policies and mandates of The Salvation Army and partnering businesses.
+ Communicate with the Kettle Coordinator 24 hours before missing a shift when reasonably possible.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
+ Ability to follow instructions with limited supervision.
+ Ability to greet and courteously respond to the general public.
+ Ability to abide by required dress code.
+ Ability to ring small handbell and be responsible for bell and apron.
+ Ability to meet attendance requirements.
+ Ability to stand in one location for extended periods in outside weather conditions with breaks and lunch periods as required by State law.
+ Ability to perform all duties with an understanding of the mission, ministry, philosophy, and culture.
+ Must be able to clear a Background Check.
+ No formal education or experience is required.
+ Complete Bell Ringer Training
+ Must be 17 years of age or older.
Physical Requirements:
+ Must be able to stand or sit (if medically necessary) on concrete for up to 8 hours at a time.
+ Work is performed outside in a wide variety of weather conditions.
+ Must be able to lift 5-10 pounds.
