Job Title: Chief Technology Officer

Reporting to: President & CEO
Location: Baltimore, MD (Not Remote – In-Office at least 2 days per week)
Hours of work: Typical hours of work are from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM local time Monday through Friday. Flexibility of Working Hours dependent on location. Additional hours may be necessary as needed. This position is exempt from overtime.
Compensation: Range is commensurate with experience. The range is expected to be between $240,000 and $260,000 annually plus up to 20% annual salary as bonus. Management equity grants for this position will be determined by the President & CEO.

Overview:
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will oversee the R&D department, ensuring that initiatives are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational goals. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CTO will drive task execution, monitor performance, and foster collaboration across departments. This role is integral to maintaining operational excellence and meeting business objectives. The role offers growth potential as the company scales.
Essential Functions:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute the company’s R&D strategy to maintain and expand our competitive advantage and grow market share.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency.
- Collaborate with the CEO, CISO and other executives to align technology initiatives with overall business strategy.
- Work with Engineering managers from 4 different business units to develop a cohesive R&D strategy.
- Oversee the development, deployment, and management of scalable, reliable, and secure technology systems.
- Work with CISO and other leaders on the architecture and development of software, platforms, and infrastructure.
- Drive research and development efforts to identify new technologies, products, or processes.
- Foster a culture of innovation and encourage cross-functional collaboration within the technology team.
- Monitor industry trends and maintain awareness of competitive advancements.
- Develop, implement and take action on R&D throughput reporting
Leadership and Team Development:
- Recruit, mentor, and retain top technology talent, building a high-performing technical team.
- Create professional development opportunities for team members and foster a positive work culture.
- Establish clear goals, objectives, and KPIs for the technology department.
Risk Management and Compliance:
- Work with the CISO to ensure compliance with relevant regulations, security standards, and data privacy laws.
- Work with the CISO to implement robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard the company’s digital assets and information.
- Assess and mitigate technology-related risks across all operations.
- Communicate technology strategy, progress, and challenges to stakeholders, including the board of directors.
- Act as a technology advocate, representing the company at industry events and with external partners.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 10 years of experience in either software development or technical leadership roles, including management of multiple teams.
- Strong knowledge of security best practices in software and data platforms.
- Experience interacting with enterprise customers and translating technical needs into business outcomes.
- Proven experience as a CTO, VP of Engineering, or similar senior technical leadership role.
- Extensive knowledge of technology architecture, software development, infrastructure, and cybersecurity.
- Track record of leading successful technology transformation and innovation initiatives.
- Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent leadership, team management, and communication abilities.
