We are seeking a dynamic, experienced, and forward-thinking Chief Engineer to join our defense industry team. This is a permanent position and a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of our innovative projects. You will be responsible for overseeing the engineering department, ensuring seamless operations, and driving the successful execution of complex defense systems. This role requires a strong technical leader who can manage multiple tasks, lead a team of engineers, and make critical decisions under pressure.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide technical leadership and direction for the manufacturing of complex defense systems, including weapons integration.
2. Manage a team of five direct reports, ensuring the highest standards of performance management.
3. Oversee all aspects of engineering design, ensuring quality control and adherence to industry standards.
4. Regularly report updates to stakeholders, providing clear and concise information on project status, risks, and potential solutions.
5. Implement and oversee risk management strategies to mitigate potential issues and ensure project success.
6. Manage project budgets, ensuring resources are effectively allocated and projects are delivered on time and within budget.
7. Engage in strategic planning, setting the direction for the engineering department and aligning with the overall company strategy.
8. Solve complex problems, using innovative thinking and a deep understanding of engineering principles.
9. Make critical decisions under pressure, balancing risk with reward and ensuring the best outcome for the company.
10. Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and other departments, fostering a culture of openness and collaboration.
11. Oversee the manufacturing of low volume, high-quality products, ensuring the highest standards of quality and performance.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
2. 5+ years of experience in a leadership role in the manufacturing industry, specifically with complex defense systems.
3. Proven experience in managing a team of engineers, with a strong focus on performance management.
4. Extensive knowledge of weapons integration and engineering design principles.
5. Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets and resources effectively.
6. Strong strategic planning and problem-solving skills.
7. Excellent decision-making abilities, with a proven ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
8. Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical information to a variety of audiences.
9. Experience with low volume manufacturing, with a focus on quality control and performance.
10. Proven track record in risk management, with the ability to identify potential issues and implement effective solutions.
