Job DescriptionRole
Using analytical methods and processes, the Chemist is responsible to provide technical information across the organization. This includes (but not limited to) initiatives supporting product development, operations, quality, environmental, and safety.
Accountabilities
- Capable of following standard electronic or written analytical methods and procedures.
- Ability to develop and document new analytical methods for customer products, final products, raw materials, and process streams, as needed.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Laboratory wet chemistry skills.
- Ability to use and learn various laboratory equipment and techniques, including but not limited to, ICP, IC, Sedigraph, FTIR, GC, GC/MS, HPLC, LC/MS, microscopy, SEM/EDX, DSC/TGA, contact angle, sample preparation techniques (such as: pyrolysis, SPME, extractions, and derivatization). Experience with GC, GC/MS, HPLC, LC/MS, a plus.
- Ability to perform routine troubleshooting and maintenance on instrumentation utilized.
- Write detailed reports with analytical findings.
- Maintain well organized records of all work done, in conformity with departmental practices.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.
- Ability to work with others on large cross-functional projects, as well as the ability to work independently.
- Detailed knowledge of safe work practices, as well as proper waste handling/ disposal in the laboratory, etc.
- Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations as pertains to the pulp and paper industry, is a plus.
- Ability to use Laboratory Management System (LIMS).
- B.S. in Chemistry.
- Two (2) or more years’ experience.
- Analytical lab experience preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate ability to handle multiple projects.
- Computer Skills: word processing, spreadsheets, internet software, e-mail, database software.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Highly self-motivated.
