About the Job
RESPONSIBILITES AND JOB FUNCTIONS:
Perform standard maintenance on equipment used for plant scale chemical synthesis (e.g., 2000 L glass-lined reactors, vacuum pumps, drying ovens, glass condensers, and filter dryers.
Perform repairs and manage specialized contractors to perform needed repairs.
Working with the Engineering and Chemistry teams, execute preventive maintenance and service to equipment used to support the manufacture of APIs.
Examples of equipment responsibilities:
Glass-Lined Reactors
Inspection and measurement of glass integrity for thickness and imperfections
Inspection and change out of gaskets and seals.
Calibration of temperature probes and pressure gauges
Repair and inspection of drain valves
Acid Gas Scrubber
Calibration of pH meter and controller
Inspection and change out of column packing media.
Inspection and change out of caustic soda reservoir.
Monthly coordination with operators to replace scrubber water.
Heat Exchangers for Reactors
Check, maintain appropriate levels and change oil as needed.
Inspect and replace heat exchanger for hard water buildup.
Coordinate cleaning of water side of the heat exchanger
Filtration System
Check, maintain appropriate levels and change oil on vacuum pumps.
Change oil filters on vacuum pumps.
Inspect integrity of piping and change parts as needed.
Friction Aire Drying Ovens
Calibrate thermocouples.
Inspect and change gaskets as needed.
Floor Balances
Calibrate on a scheduled basis.
Level or adjust support carts.
Material Transfer Pumps
Inspection and changeout of gaskets
Level or adjust support carts.
Rebuild as needed.
Freezer System
Filter changeout
Calibration of temperature readout
Nitrogen Generator
Testing proper flow to reactors
Change Filters
Coordinate annual PM.
Water Supply
Inspection of safety shower and eye wash station
Coordinate inspection of sprinkler system
Inspection and repair of plumbing supplying water to cooling towers.
Mobile Fume Hood
Changeout of HEPA filter
Filter testing
Flow velocity check
Concentrate Mix Tanks
Inspection of agitator motors
Inspection of drain valves
Vent inspection
Agitated Filter Dryer Systems (Nutsche)
Inspection and routine preventative maintenance
Ensure proper mechanical operation.

Daily Water testing and Chemical Addition
Monthly third-party water treatment testing coordination
Steam Trap Surveys/Inspection/Replacement
Ultrasonic Leak testing PM
Conduct survey of process areas to locate leaks of Air/N2 and other gases.
Oil Heaters/Coolers
Monthly PMs
Annual Oil Testing and Analysis
HVAC system Maintenance
Filter Change outs
Exhaust fan bearing greasing.
Belt Tension and replacement PM
RO system maintenance
Water Softener PMs
Water Testing Checks
Conductivity
Membrane Replacement
Grounding bonding PM
Checking resistance for all grounding locations.
Monthly Greasing PM
Completion of United States EPA RCRA Hazwoper Training.
Help facilitate accurate inventory of spare parts and records of PMs.
Available to be on call as needed. Overtime may be required to meet production demands.
Other related duties as required.
EDUCATION
Associates Degree in Industrial Maintenance or similar degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Ideally 10+ years of previous maintenance of glass-lined chemical reactors within a chemical manufacturing environment. Demonstrated success working within and performing maintenance on equipment that manufactures highly toxic API substances and within reactor rooms that routinely employ highly flammable, combustible liquids. Must have hands-on experience and knowledge of safety measures required for operating within chemical synthesis spaces.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics are required. Logical trouble shooting and excellent verbal communication skills are required. Teamwork, flexibility, patience, diplomacy and a high level of initiative are necessary.
OTHER EQUIPMENT OPERATED
Hand and power tools, spark tester, welding equipment, forklift, electrical test devices, and computers. Full-face respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) when required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently/100 pounds occasionally is required. Must complete respirator evaluation and comply with the Facial Hair policy.
