Unit Nurse, 12.5 Hour night shift, 1800p-0700a, half hour lunchAbout the job:As the Charge Nurse, you will be responsible for directing and coordinatingpatient care and clinical supervision of support staff. You will assess patienthealth problems and needs, develop, and implement nursing care plans, andmaintain medical records. In this position, you will work evening/night shiftand will have additional oversight of the unit.A Day in the Life:The essential functions of this role are as follows:• Prioritize and organize the daily care of patients.• Make patient care assignments and assist in creating treatment plans incollaboration with other clinical• staff.• Provide ongoing assessment and documentation of the patients' physical andpsychosocial status from• admission to discharge.• Direct support staff to coordinate the workflow on the unit and communicateproblems to the Charge Nurse• Supervisor.• Administer medications and treatments according to hospital policies andprocedures.• Develop and implement nursing care plans for nursing diagnosis or treatmentplan changes.• Complete medication administration supervision monitors and clinicalobservation notes for support staff.• Completes required documentation of nursing notes, transfer forms and otherrecords.• Educate patients and family members regarding medication, procedures, andtreatment goals and objectives.• Respond and intervene to emergency situations and agitated patients.• Provide orientation and support to staff and to the unit.• Responsible for ensuring the proper safety and infection control standards aremet for the unit.• The job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensivelisting of activities, duties or• responsibilities that are required of the employee. Other duties,responsibilities and activities may change or be• assigned at any time.What We're Looking For:What You'll Need for Success:• This person must have the following requirements to be considered foremployment:• Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited college.• License to practice nursing in the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse.• Must hold and maintain a CPR.• Must stay current with behavioral intervention training.• Proficiency in computer skills and ability to learn other programs used inmaintaining electronic medical records.• Good interpersonal skills, good verbal, and written communication skills.• Ability to understand and apply medical and facility terminology.• Ability to use MS Office applications and electronic patient records.• Ability to serve as a patient advocate.• Knowledge of and the ability to interpret nursing and facility policies andprocedures.• Additional knowledge and/or ability may be required based on the populationthe facility serves such as: children, adolescents, geriatrics, etc.Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.Difficulty of Work:Your work requires the performance of a full range of nursing care for patientswith a wide range of medicaldiagnoses and varying degrees of illness. Your judgment is needed in applyingappropriate nursing careprocedures.Responsibility:The Charge Nurse works independently on assigned units and is responsible forquality of nursing treatmentplans and effectiveness of activities and interactions geared toward treatmentprogress. Supervision is basedon standard medical orders from the physician. However, this position is legallyresponsible for his/her nursingactions. You will receive limited supervision and work is reviewed for generaladequacy in judgment andconformance with policy.Personal Work Relationships:Works in collaboration with other disciplines daily. You will need to maintain aprofessional attitude and cancommunicate nursing principles to others. You will interact with patients,families, guardians, and health carerepresentatives to educate and promote safety and welfare as allowed by theHealth Insurance Portability andAccountability Act (HIPM) guidelines. You will serve as an advocate for thepatient. You will communicate andwork with support staff to promote a safe environment.Personal Work Relationships:This individual will be expected to partner with agency personnel and relatedstakeholdersworking towards completion of assigned functions. Exceptional customer serviceis providedto agency partners and/or the general public.A high level of judgement and effective communication is required during timesof contactwith facility residents/offenders.Partnership with relevant public agencies, federal, state & local governmentsand/orcommunity leaders may be required.Facility residents or offenders may have family, friends, community partnersand/or otherinterested parties come to the facility requesting information or to visit withthe residentaccording to policies and procedures.This position will communicate directly with children and families on a regularbasis.Physical Effort:Depending on the duties performed or environment setting, frequent walking,standing,climbing stairs or ladders, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and/or similarmovements maybe involved.This role requires the ability to lift/transport items up to 50 lbs with orwithout the assistanceof equipment.This role requires above average strength when restraining one or more patientsor offendersas per departmental policy and procedure.This role requires the ability to run short distances to provide immediate care,protection, orattention to patients or offenders.This role requires keen observational and hearing skills to stay alert forpossible dangeroussituations.Working Conditions:This role performs work in a state operated hospital facility.Operations may require this role to be available after hours (on-call) and/orwork rotatingshifts, evenings and weekends, or irregular hours.There is potential for exposure to infectious diseases in this role.This role may experience periods of high stress and/or pressure.This role requires the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)whennecessary.Competentcies• Supporting Organizational Goals• Driving for Results• Critical Thinking• Teaching
