Job Description
The RN - Charge Nurse for Behavioral Medicine is a key player in the delivery of care consistent with the recovery model assuring that staff is providing person centered care evidenced by choice, respect, dignity, partnerships, self-management, and full inclusion. This position takes responsibility to set the stage in creating a culture that embraces all aspects of the recovery model and strategies to reduce seclusion and restraint. This position creates a collaborative, non-punitive environment, and works through problems by communicating expectations to staff. This position is well versed in patients' rights regarding care, privacy, safety, confidentiality of medical records, and the Baker Act. This position is a resource to staff and can clearly give direction and guidance. As a Registered Nurse, this position explains illness, symptoms, courses of treatment and hope for the future and begins to teach the individual about the use and benefits of personal recovery plans and relapse. This position informs the individual of the benefits of active treatment, including medication, and the intended and unintended effects and ensures that the individual is educated about choices/resources available.
Responsibilities
- Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care.
- Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic plan of care for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/significant other in order to address all identified needs. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
- Evaluates the identified problems, care provided, and patient's responses are reassessed to meet patient and family needs and assure overall quality of care delivered. Assumes responsibility for daily personnel assignment/monitoring patient care and overall unit activities, in accordance with established standards.
- Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, to ensure quality care. Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
- Pursues professional growth and development. Performs selected leadership duties as delegated by the nurse manager.
- Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the behavioral health unit/behavioral health division as defined in the scope of service, to assure that the unique nature of the client is addressed. This includes, but is not limited to the age of the client served.
- Supports Professional Governance through engagement and support of the Unit Based Council and other nursing councils.
- Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
- May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Associates Degree Nursing Required or
- Technical Diploma/Certificate Nursing Required
- Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred
Minimum Work Experience
- 1-3 years Clinical nursing experience Required
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state license Upon Hire Required and
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
- CPI within 90 Days Required
- Registered Nurse Licensed Upon Hire Required and
- ACLS Provider (ACLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and
- National Institutes Of Health Stroke Scale (NIH) NIH_STROKE Upon Hire Required
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills. (High proficiency)
- Demonstrates leadership behaviors in a professional manner
- demonstrate and role model the use of de-escalation and uses interpersonal skills to relax patients involved in potential conflict.
