Essential Job Responsibilities
- Assists in the practice of occupational therapy and activities requiring an understanding of occupational therapy.
- Practices only under the direction of a registered and licensed Occupational Therapist.
- Implements the occupational therapy treatment plan as established by the Occupational Therapist.
- Offers suggestions, provides feedback, carries out agreed-upon activities, and voices constructive concerns in a collaborative manner with the Occupational Therapist.
- Documents occupational therapy services by charting in the resident’s therapy electronic medical record (EMR), in a timely manner per facility policy.
- Monitors the resident’s environment in order to identify any needs or barriers that might negatively impact the resident’s therapy and recovery.
- Observe and make recommendations for the necessary accommodations to the Occupational Therapist and enact those recommendations.
- Participates in weekly, and/or monthly rehabilitative and interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss residents’ therapy progression in relation to discharge planning for residents receiving occupational therapy services as designated by the Occupational Therapist or Director of Rehabilitation.
- Delivers compassionate quality care and occupational therapy services across the spectrum as evidenced by professional competence, general cleanliness of therapy gyms/offices, and optimal resident functioning and satisfaction with occupational therapy services provided.
- Promotes teamwork, mutual respect, and effective communication.
- Promotes positivity and active daily problem-solving.
- Communicates and documents the need for supplies and adaptive equipment for patients to facilitate independence. Instructs, trains, and documents the use of recommended equipment.
- Instruct patients, families, and/or caregivers in maintenance programs.
- Maintains patient care standards for the care of a patient with a tracheostomy, ventilator, and/or g-tube.
- Understanding of post acute facility regulations and guidelines, for various governing bodies. Including but not limited to company compliance program and code of conduct, and HIPAA.
- Promotes a safe operating environment to eliminate work place hazards.
- Ensures proper operation of equipment by complying with company procedures and following manufacturer’s instructions/guidelines.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
- Current, valid, in good standing license as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the State of Hawaii. Must maintain an active license in good standing throughout employment.
- Graduate from an AOTA and ACOTE accredited curriculum in Occupational Therapy Assistant.
- Initial certification with NBCOT. Continued certification is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license in the State of Hawaii.
- Knowledge of skilled nursing home regulations, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to long-term care.
- Maintain a current BLS CPR certification.
- Ability to effectively read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tracheostomy and Ventilator experience.
- Passy Muir Valve experience.
- Experience working with a variety of diagnoses and equipment. Including but not limited to, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and alternative augmentative communication devices.
Shift Information
- PRN shifts include all days of the week.
