Job Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is a key component of our team that works closely with the Nurse Practitioner (NP) to deliver excellent patient care to our community, ensuring services are provided within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. The CMA is responsible for, but not limited to, collecting and organizing clinical and demographic information for the NP, such as lab reports, Imaging, Consultant Pharmacist recommendations, Nursing Notes, Physician Attending and Specialists' documentation, medication and dietary orders, hospital records, insurance payer information, etc. The CMA is generally responsible for assisting the NP in certain non-clinical day to day job responsibilities to ensure quality, comprehensive insight into records, and efficiency of medical care for patients and residents of the facility.
Essential Functions:
Collect and organize labs, orders that need signatures, dietary recommendations, pharmacy recommendations, nursing concerns, etc. for NP to review.
Obtain and assist in acquiring vital signs, pulling Medication Administration Record (MAR), and orders.
Obtain necessary medical records from hospital systems and the facility EMR.
Prepare the medical record in the UHP EMR
Obtain chief complaints and vital signs.
Complete demographic information and chronic conditions on chart.
File and maintain necessary documents.
Other duties as assigned
Education:
High school diploma required; some college or technical school training preferred
Licensure/Certification:
Active Medical Assisting Certification (required)
Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (preferred upon hire, required within 90 days of hire)
Experience:
One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (required)
One year of long term care or nursing home experience (required)
Skills & Abilities:
Possesses problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Engage with staff and patients/residents in a professional manner
Good organizational skills required
Basic medical terminology knowledge required
Proficient in navigating Electronic Health Records, typing, and general comfort with technology
Ability to assess basic vital signs preferred
Transportation to/from work required
Punctuality and consistency of work attendance required
Physical Requirements
Work consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. Must speak, read, and write Basic English fluently. Intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Manual finger dexterity.
