What we're looking for in a Camp Supervisor
To thrive in the role of Camp Group Supervisor, certain skills and qualifications are essential for success. You will need to possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a focus on early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or a related field. Alternatively, an associate's degree coupled with relevant coursework and years of experience in working with children can also be considered. Obtaining criminal child abuse and FBI clearances are necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of the campers.
In addition to the educational requirements, you should have a deep understanding of youth development principles and the ability to create engaging and purposeful programming. Strong leadership skills are vital as you will guide and mentor camp staff, encouraging their growth and professional development. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial for building positive relationships with children, parents, and fellow staff members. With your passion for working with children, knowledge in the field, and commitment to upholding YMCA values, you will excel in this role and create a truly transformative experience for our campers.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
A group supervisor shall have attained one of the following qualification levels:
(1) A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field.
(2) A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year of experience with children.
(3) An associate's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 2 years of experience with children.
(4) An associate's degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 3 years of experience with children.
(5) Ability to obtain criminal, child abuse, and FBI clearances.
