The Department of Public Safety (DPS), Division of Administrative Services, Supply Section is seeking a motivated and dedicated Building Management Specialist (BMS) who is responsible for building maintenance, leasing for rural trooper housing, land, and other facilities, and related procurements in support of all DPS Divisions. The incumbent will assist the department operations through support of construction projects in state-owned buildings including remodels, renovations, new construction, maintenance repairs, and service contracts in office buildings, posts, aircraft hangars, rural trooper housing, and storage buildings throughout Alaska. The BMS coordinates with management and the Division of Finance to ensure state-owned buildings are maintained to full operational capability. The incumbent also acts as owner representative for major facility upgrade projects executed by the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities. This position assists with all maintenance activities relating to operating, capital and deferred maintenance, repair and construction projects.
OUR ORGANIZATION, MISSION, AND CULTURE:
The Division of Administrative Services provides management assistance to the Commissioner and administrative support to all divisions in the department. Centralized administrative support includes operating/capital budgeting, financial management, procurement, property control, maintenance/construction and repair requests, leasing, grants and contracts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, interagency agreements, budget coordination, and warehouse operations.
The Supply team operates on core values of customer service, consistency and accuracy, and teamwork, all of which contribute to the success of our section to support the department.
Working with the Supply team, you will provide expertise with building maintenance and leasing operations for the department, and provide support to the Facilities Manager related to facilities, maintenance, construction, repairs, and leasing requests.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:
This position is located at the Department of Public Safety Headquarters in Anchorage at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave and Tudor Rd. The daily work environment consists of a small team of task-driven individuals in a shared workspace. The incumbent will work closely with team members to support the mission. Work outside normal business hours may be needed on occasion, but this is rare. Some travel will be required to fulfill job duties, often on state aircraft. After a successful training period, this position may be eligible for a hybrid telework arrangement.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR / DESIRED QUALITIES:
Considerable knowledge of project management, such as documentation, survey and inspection requirements, public relations, contractor relations and employee relations.
Considerable knowledge of the practices, procedures, equipment and materials used in the construction, maintenance and repair of buildings.
Ability to analyze project feasibility, prepare cost estimates, write specifications, solicit bids and award contracts within authority.
Working knowledge of building plans, specifications, codes, and basic engineering principles.
Ability to inspect buildings and other facilities, make recommendations and write reports.
Ability to organize, evaluate and present information effectively, both orally and in writing.
