The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature. We offer to the public 60 forest preserves, 160+ miles of trails, 47 miles of rivers and streams, and 6 nature and cultural centers. We have 6 million visitors each year.
The District's mission is, "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure, and recreation of its citizens.
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for developing, estimating, and implementing repair recommendations to all masonry structural components throughout the District's buildings and preserves.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Remove existing and install new concrete building components and park amenities
- Grind out existing mortar and tuck-pointing of brick and stone components
- Perform power wash and acid wash structures
- Control joints and cracked masonry, caulk, patch, trowels, grinders, backing, etc.
- Develop processes and estimate time and materials for maintenance repairs and projects
- Perform other duties as required
Education and Experience Required:
Related Experience: Five (5) years field experience as a journeyman skill level Bricklayer/Stone Mason in general construction trades as a laborer; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special training or other license, certification,etc.: CDL with proper endorsements, Respirator Certification, 10 Hr. OSHA Certification, Ongoing safety training per OHSA 1910 and 1926 industries, valid Driver's License.
Knowledge Of: Brick, stone, flagstone, and concrete work; standard practices, tools, and terminology of the masonry trade; masonry codes and industry standards; occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions; computer databases to research methods, supplies, cost, and equipment; math, calculations, and material quantities for remodeling and new construction.
Skills In: Working from blueprints, drawings, and verbal instructions; estimating time and materials required for completion of projects; record keeping; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; using proper equipment, materials, and methods on custom masonry installations.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:30 am - 2:30 pm. May include voluntary snow plowing or emergency call back work outside of normal hours.
Starting Rate: $61,532.20 - 68,428.05 per year.
Internal candidate's wage adjustments are to follow CBA.
