Our client, a respected independent insurance brokerage specializing in commercial, personal, and group benefits lines, is seeking a skilled Benefits Account Manager to manage fully insured accounts and possibly level- and self-funded groups ranging from 51 to 400 lives. This role requires strong analytical skills, confidence in using MS Excel, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and carriers. The Benefits Account Manager will oversee all aspects of carrier administration and negotiations, facilitate open enrollment, and manage benefits software administration.
This is an in-office role located in Mesa, AZ, with potential for a hybrid arrangement depending on performance and culture fit. The position requires regular attendance at client meetings, so candidates must be within driving distance of the Mesa office.
Responsibilities:
- Manage fully insured accounts and, if applicable, level- and self-funded groups (51-400 lives).
- Administer carrier negotiations, policy administration, and facilitate open enrollments.
- Provide benefits software administration and ensure all systems run smoothly.
- Utilize MS Excel for reporting, writing formulas, analyzing quotes, and differentiating between plan options.
- Communicate effectively with clients and carriers, presenting plan options and insights.
- Attend in-person client meetings regularly.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
- Work closely with producers to ensure clients are satisfied, though client acquisition and renewals are not part of this role.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in benefits account management, with a focus on the 51+ market.
- Proficient in MS Excel, with the ability to create reports, formulas, and analyze data.
- Strong communication and presentation skills; able to explain plan options and quotes clearly to clients and carriers.
- Experience in carrier negotiations and administering open enrollments.
- Knowledge of compliance requirements in the insurance and benefits sector.
- Experience using Applied’s EPIC (agency management system) is a must.
- Independent broker experience only; no candidates from carriers, TPAs, or captive agencies will be considered.
