Job Description:
Use organized programming, together with recreational, social, and occupational activities, to promote skill development, problem solving, and coping for patients In a correctional setting under the direction of qualified behavioral and mental health staff.
JOB DUTIES
- Provide group and individual treatment to patients in assigned program/faciiity.
- Develops and implements interventions as assigned under the supervision of professional behavioral/mental health staff.
- Counsel' and encourage patients to participate in group and individual activities
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning meetings as assigned.
- Provide care and activities programming to the patient population in the assigned area/facilities.
- Inform supervisor and/or licensed staff of any significant change in a patient's functioning utilizing formal processes to refer patients to licensed clinicians when indicated;
- Prepare, maintain and submit appropriate documentation of all related activities and patient's responses to treatment. Provides necessary and timely preparation of documentation, necessary
records and reports.
- Maintain an inventory of materials including evaluation of whether materials are safe and in good repair.
- Monitor and track all material use and return to ensure a safe environment for group and individual activities.
- Performs other duties at the request of Client administrative staff.
- Attending required safety training and in-servfce programs as requested.
- Understand and comply with the rules and regulations of the institution.

- Comply with facility'and Client care policies and Federal and State laws.
- Coordinate programming with security staff to participate in maintaining positive working relationships.
- Maintain Security Clearance
Professionalism
- Proactively work to maintain professional boundaries.
- Participate in all required training to ensure provision of safe and effective care to the patient population.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree required, with human services, social work, psychology preferred.
- Training, experience or certification as a mental health worker, activities technician, case manager or group counselor preferred.
- Prior experience in behavioral or mental health, drug/alcohol rehabilitation services preferred.
- Must be able to pass a background investigation and obtain security clearance where applicable.
WORK ENVIRNOMENT
Correctional officers provide security; however, some degree of risk of verbal and physical assault from patients exists. As in any healthcare setting, employees may be exposed to communicable and/or infectious diseases. Inside work with periodic traveling (inter and intra state) to other locations with exposure to weather, temperature extremes and hazardous road conditions. Frequent standing and walking while presenting or performing job duties.
Because patients need round the clock care, working hours include days, nights, weekends, holidays and on-call. Rotating shifts, weekends as well as holidays and work during inclement weather will be required. Adheres to site/contract specific regarding on-call requirements and mandated schedules/overtime. Team members may be mandated to work shifts and/or overtime due to site/staffing or emergencies.
Essential staff are defined as healthcare and behavioral professionals that may be required or mandated to work due to site/staffing or emergencies (natural disaster, inclement weather or other situations).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees must be able to perform the following:
1. Required to exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including the human body.
- Required to kneel, stoop, crouch and/or crawl occasionally. Frequent walking throughout site; to include walking up and down flights of stairs.
- Must have and maintain sufficient strength, agility,.and endurance to perform during stressful (physical, mental, and emotional) situations encountered on the job.
- Occasional running when responding to emergencies; must be able to perform BLS.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Frequently required to sit, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, and talk/hear.
- Requires critical thinking, organizational, decisive judgment, communication, good customer service skills. Must be able to handle multiple tasks, be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate actions as needed.
