About the Job
Serendipity is seeking to fill a(n) Behavior Specialist position. Our Behavior Specialist plays the critical role of leading individual intervention professional development and supporting student teams with individual behavior planning.
What makes us different? Serendipity Center is a therapeutic day school that combines Mental Health, Special Education, Wellness, and Transition Readiness supports for students who need extra time, attention, and skills practice to be successful. Being a private non-profit, all the support and resources are right here on campus, in addition to having small class sizes, Teachers are provided with an in- classroom Program Assistant, and 1-2 additional Instructional Assistants minimum. Outside of the classroom a team of Behavioral Interventionists, Clinical Case Managers, SLP's, SPED Coordinators, MTSS Supervisors, an Art Therapist, Transition Coordinator, Therapeutic Adaptive Recreation Teacher, and a Therapeutic Garden Educator all add to our rich program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Collaborate with Vice-Principal to develop Intensive Student Support team agenda twice per month.
- Lead at least monthly professional development in individual behavior interventions.
- Coach behavior assessment and behavior support plan documentation and implementation.
- Support students' teams (teacher, clinical case manager, classroom staff, SLP, intervention) with students who are not responding to Tier I and/or lesser restrictive interventions.
- Collecting, analyzing, and report data from multiple sources to various internal stakeholders including Special Education Director
- Adopts Serendipity's model to ensure that student plans are trauma informed, not contraindicated to students' mental health diagnosis, are not punitive/adversarial.
- Develop written universal procedures and expectations for common individual behavior interventions.
- Collaborate with leadership team to develop systems to continue to ensure MTSS model address all student's behavior progress.
- Participate in relevant leadership tasks like school-wide professional development, School Improvement Planning, and School-wide Expectations.
- Communicate and document plans so that all staff working with the student has easy access to the plan and most importantly oversee the implementation fidelity of those plans.
- Implement CPI according to ODE and OPSI guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Education/ experience: Master's degree and 2-5 years experience as a Licensed Professional in Behavior Health (Such as OT, Autism, BCBA, LCSW, LPC, Special Education Teacher, SLP)
- General Skills: Work well in leading large teams to support students that are struggling. Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines. Use of strategies that support both students with significant social emotional and behavior needs (SEB) and students with Autism
- Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The employee may occasionally need to exert force and perform physical management techniques. Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to assault by a student; the employee may occasionally be exposed to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally may be very loud.
