Bakery Category Manager - Sprouts Farmers Market

About the Job
This position is responsible for the development and implementation of category business plans within assigned categories that align overall with department and company strategies. The Category Manager plans and directs all aspects of product development programs, pricing, and promotions, in line with overall department business objectives, and initiatives and with oversight from the department Director. The Category Manager analyzes past buying trends, sales records, price, and quality of merchandise to determine value and develops programs and initiatives to meet targeted expectations. This position is also responsible for the achievement of sales objectives, profitability goals, market share and competitive position strategies.
Overview of Responsibilities
- Analyze product profitability, selection, display and assortment using category management practices
- Budgets and monitors sales and margin plans of assigned categories in accordance with personal and company overall goals
- Review all weekly, monthly, and quarterly statements
- Provide the stores with relevant data to make informed decisions about the department and how to maximize profitability
- Coordination and supervision of all retail pricing for each price and promotional region
- Partners with DSD vendors to achieve high service levels and build strong and relevant local programs
- Creates new and innovative programs to differentiate Sprouts in the marketplace.
- Oversees competitive analysis, including auditing competitive product selection, displays and pricing through on-site visits and market research
- Develops strategies with key business partners on product innovation and improvement; presentation, packing, pricing, assortment and shrink
- Presents information (i.e., category budget overviews, accounting processes etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback, and ensuring adherence to established internal controls
- Coordinates information relative to the development of supplier and product profiles
- Organizes and participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information to perform functions
- Develops long and short range category plans for the purpose of expanding the department programs and/or ensuring that company resources are effectively utilized
- Drive local and regional initiatives as needed to differentiate and support our farmer’s market positioning
- Support department resets, remodels, and new store openings as appropriate
- Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships
- Support and act as a liaison between Sprouts stores and vendors to assure quality products and department standards are being are being delivered
- Maintain awareness of Sprouts marketing strategies and competitive activity
- Coordinate and source vendor participation for new store openings and resets
- Develop strategies that keep Sprouts on the cutting edge of the industry

Qualifications
- Preferred Bachelor Degree in Business or related field with a minimum of five (5) years of experience, with experience as Merchandiser or Manager preferred
- Previous buying/negotiating experience required
- Requires long-term strategic and financial planning skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Power BI, Outlook and the Internet
- Ability to preserve confidentiality of information, communicate with all levels of management and work within strict time frames and resolute deadlines
- Complete understanding of P/L statements, general ledgers, and margins
- Some travel required
