Please be advised that Lake Havasu City is hiring for full-time AND part-time Background Investigators. Positions expected to be available by July 1, 2024.
General Definition of Work:
Incumbent is responsible for conducting background and administrative investigations relating to employment, volunteer services and vendor clearance.
Special Note: May require non-standard or rotating shift work; subject to days, nights, weekends and holidays. If selected for the unclassified position, please note that thispart-time position and will work no more than 29 hours per week. Requires non-standard work hours to include days, nights, weekends and holidays. Requires extreme confidentiality; ability to pass background investigation and polygraph examination.
The ideal candidate will be highly ethical, organized, reliable, and self-motivated. They will possess excellent listening skills and strong written and verbal communication skills. MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO PASS A BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) and a minimal experience in conducting investigations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Driver License of appropriate class.
National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) Training, based on assignment.
Ability to pass a background investigation and polygraph examination.

Gathers, verifies, evaluates and analyzes personal, professional, credit/financial, and educational documents.
Contacts other agencies, governments, and professional organizations to obtain and verify information.
Conducts investigative interviews.
Conducts administrative investigations.
Prepares clear and concise letters, reports and written summary of investigation findings.
Operates and maintains motor vehicles or other work-related equipment requiring a valid Arizona Driver License.
Maintains regular attendance.
Performs other duties of similar nature or level.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Police investigative procedures.
Interviewing techniques.
Principles and practices of internal affairs investigations.
Writing clear and concise letters and reports.
Observing body language.
Conducting investigative interviews.
Using office equipment such as phones, copiers, and fax machines.
Using computers and related software applications.
Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
The City reserves the right to consider only the most highly qualified applicants. The succeeding examination processes may be required: training and experience, testing, panel interview, employment eligibility verification (EEV) requirements, personnel evaluation profile (PEP), polygraph test, background investigation and alcohol/drug screening test. Appointment subject to successful background investigation and City paid post-employment medical examination after offer of employment has been made.
