As the Senior Warehouse Automation Hardware Engineer, you will have a meaningful role in our future success by analyzing high labor content activities across the company and designing automation to improve operational efficiency and deliver positive Return on Investment (ROI) and Return on Invested Capital (ROIC). What you'll do on a typical day:
- Design, plan, source and implement automation solutions, including robotics, conveyors, sorters, scanners, vision systems and PLCs
- Conduct root cause analyses of labor and/or process inefficiencies through operational data analysis, Pareto charts, process reviews, time studies, statistical reviews, simulation and discussions with operational leadership
- Develop design and equipment specifications for the implementation of automation solutions, including identifying facility design requirements based on activity levels, product envelope, product flow and transportation methods
- Build layouts and power requirements to accept automation designs; specify material handling and storage equipment solutions
- Design startup and ongoing personnel requirements for automation solutions based on product profile and activity levels; identify management and supervisory requirements for operations personnel
- Determine required maintenance support positions for each site depending on equipment functionality and service level requirements for on-site operations; develop preventive maintenance tasks and schedules to mitigate less than 100% uptime operations
- Identify changes to existing functionality and test IT solutions and functionality; partner with IT team to identify and document new functionality not currently available
- Specify packing methods to be used based on mode/method of transportation and product profile; specify containers/cartons and packing (void fill) medium requirements
- Identify outbound labeling/documentation requirements; provide annual cost estimates for packing materials and create cartonization tables
- Develop processes and procedures for human interface functionality with automation equipment, along with supporting validation techniques and metrics to ensure successful project completion
At a minimum, you'll need:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work or military experience
- 2 years of experience in high-volume operations and distribution-related work
- Experience implementing all types of sorters and goods-to-person systems, including high-density automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), carousels and robotic systems
- Experience with simulation software, 3D modeling/drawing and designing components and system parts
- Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Mini Tab and Six Sigma analysis tools
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering with a focus in Robotics/Automation Engineering
- Availability to travel up to 30% of the time
- Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and electrical controls of motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), switches, diverters, spirals and various conveyor components and types
- Solid knowledge of project management principles with the ability to use discernment within defined practices and procedures
- Demonstrated ability as a collaborative, innovative and strategic thinker who is decisive and results-oriented
- Ability to handle multiple projects and time demands with a high level of urgency, personal integrity, energy and stamina
