Job Summary
As an auto shop mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues on company vehicles.
Essential Duties
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
- Use handtools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, or precision instruments, as well as power tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, or jacks and hoists.
- Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
- Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
- Test drive trucks to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
- Raise trucks and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
- Attach test instruments to equipment, and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
- Rebuild gas or diesel engines.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, or pressure gauges.
- Recondition and replace parts, pistons, bearings, gears, and valves.
- Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.
- Specialize in repairing and maintaining parts of the engine, such as fuel injection systems.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery, such as pumps and compressors.
- Install or repair accessories.
- Disassemble and overhaul internal combustion engines, pumps, generators, transmissions, clutches, and differential units.
- Diagnose and repair vehicle heating and cooling systems.
- Repair or adjust seats, doors, or windows.
- Operate valve-grinding machines to grind and reset valves.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to be approved for, and maintain eligibility to be on, company insurance for driving purposes is required
- Ability to read and write English, fluently.
- Customer service oriented.
- Positive, can-do, team-oriented attitude.
- Great active listening skills. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

- This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent.

Physical Requirements / Working Environment
- Location is at 2730 Mine and Mill Rd, Lakeland, FL.
- This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:00pm and overtime could be required at times.
- Working environment is in an industrial shop; non-climate controlled and is often times hot / humid. Frequent exposure to moving equipment, machines and shop tools, and other safety-sensitive hazards / risks. Must always be alert and able to safely perform the essential duties of the job without risking harm to oneself or others.
- While performing the duties of this job, you will:
- Frequently perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
