Job Title: Attorney - Adult Protective Services Litigation and Program Counseling Unit (APS-LPCU)
Location: New York, NY
The Agency is seeking full-time contract attorneys for a 6+ month assignment, with potential for long-term extension.
Overview:
The Adult Protective Services Litigation and Program Counseling Unit represents the agency with respect to support for the Home Care Services Program, the HIV and AIDS Services Administration (HASA), Adult Protective Services (APS), the Medical Assistance Program (MAP), and the Medicaid Managed Care Program.
The APS/LPCU provides litigation support and technical assistance to the Adult Protective Services Program (APS). On behalf of the City’s most vulnerable at-risk, mentally or physically impaired adult population, the APS program makes referrals to APS/LPCU for legal review of proceedings for stays of eviction and appointments of Guardians ad litem in Housing Court, or for Mental Hygiene Law Article 81 guardianship in the Supreme Court. The Unit’s attorneys review such referrals for legal sufficiency and where the legal standard is met will draft pleadings and adjudicate such proceedings.
APS-LPCU attorneys represent the Agency on legal matters before the Court and prepare legal opinions on matters of importance to the City using generally accepted legal procedures/ forms/techniques, to meet agency and City needs, goals and objectives; and providing legal counsel and technical assistance to agency programs/departments by attending meetings, reviewing legal issues and documents, assisting management in resolving complex legal questions.
The APS-LPCU contract attorney needs to be admitted to the New York State Bar.
Compensation:
$49.00/hour for 1-7 years of experience
$52.00/hour for 7+ years of experience
