Job Description
Component Engineering is leading the effort to design, test, and deliver advanced technologies for the next generation of reactor plant components. We are seeking a new team member to perform structural evaluations and assist in the design of prototype concepts and test hardware, using a combination of first-principles engineering and finite element analysis. The evaluations performed by the selected candidate will quantify the performance of both new and existing component technologies with a goal of maintaining the U.S. Navy's technical edge.
In this role, the selected candidate will be empowered to enhance their design, analysis, and collaboration skills through challenging work assignments, mentoring, and in-house training programs. The design and analysis results generated in this role will directly impact ongoing, highly visible technology development efforts. Job responsibilities may include hydraulic design, modeling and analysis, and documenting the results of performance evaluations for system components and equipment. Responsibilities may also include job automation, methods development, and integration with various testing communities and other engineering disciplines.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field.
- Prior experience with computational fluid dynamics and heat transfer
Preferred Skills
- Programming/scripting experience with Matlab, Python, and/or other languages.
- Basic understanding of turbulence, turbulence modeling, and/or rotating machinery.
- Prior experience with modeling fluid dynamics using a commercially-available software tool (e.g., CFX, Fluent, CFD++, STAR-CCM, OpenFOAM, etc.).

Pay Range

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
