WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Assistant Vice President, Structural Engineer for our St. Louis, Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri, or our Minneapolis, Minnesota offices. Be involved in projects with our Transportation Structures Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
The St. Louis Office provides transportation and infrastructure services to numerous agencies and private clients in the central region. Our structural work includes design and retrofit of facilities and transportation related structures for a wide variety of public and private sector clients.
Your Impact
- The ideal candidate will have broad-based, hands-on experience in structural engineering including the ability to execute tasks as part of a multi- disciplinary team.
- Assignments may include: planning, analysis, design and rehabilitation of bridges, low-rise buildings, commercial/industrial facilities, transit and transportation facilities; analysis design and retrofit of retaining walls; construction staging analysis; evaluation of existing structures and load ratings; plan development, preparation of specifications, review of construction phase submittals and shop drawings, preparation of technical reports.
- This position requires the ability to work independently with minimum supervision as a lead engineer on major projects.
- This position will mentor and guide junior engineers during the planning and design process.
- Other duties may include: project management, mentoring, client interaction and preparation of qualifications and cost proposals.
- Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local and privately funded improvement and development projects.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.
- A Missouri Professional Engineers license or professional engineers license in another state with ability to obtain a Missouri Professional Engineers license is required.
- Must have a valid Driver’s license. Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
- Ability to efficiently use structural analysis software is required. Proficiency in software such as STAAD, Pro and RAM systems, experience in SAP 2000 is not required but desirable.
- Ability to use software to develop 3D designs and digital models such as REVIT and AutoCad is highly desirable.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members
- Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
